Senior Director of Business Development

Job Description:

Reporting to the CEO, the Senior Director of Business Development has the primary responsibility of leading the organization’s business development functions, with a focus on analyzing our current portfolio of customers and sales and developing and executing strategies to maximize opportunity and growth.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Establish annual sales goals for all members of the business development team.
  • Ensure that prioritization of resources towards meeting sales goals is happening between related departments.
  • Identify opportunities to further the company's expansion efforts.
  • Stay current on industry trends affecting existing and prospective customers.
  • Conduct daily meetings with business development leads to ensure that business development coordination is being optimized via process creation, leveraging of technology, and the consistent and effective communication between the Business Development Coordinators (BDC) and Directors of Business Development.
  • Conduct daily standups with each of the DBDs to field any immediate questions, provide guidance, and highlight priorities. Ensure customer accounts are actively managed and monitored.
  • Delegate work efficiently and leverage resources to ensure optimal business development goals.
  • Conduct weekly check-ins with other senior management to highlight the needs of the business development team.
  • Establish prioritization cross-divisionally through collaborative discussion amongst senior managers to help guide overall corporate evolution.
  • Work with the supply chain team (SCM) to receive timely updates on current formulary changes and upcoming pipeline information.
  • Through demand from customers, drive SCM conversations towards relevant products.
  • Manage new product announcements to the DBDs to properly prepare them for success.
  • Advise management on critical/important issues and prepare special reports and analyses as requested.
  • Create an efficient methodology for managing data collection from customers, including indicating stakeholder(s) responsible for ensuring data collection is completed and committed to corporate systems in a retrievable fashion.
  • Create saved reports that highlight key performance metrics to help guide monthly progress toward sales goals.
  • Understand current internal technology systems to ensure they are being fully utilized to achieve business objectives and to identify gaps and improvements in technology systems.
  • Manage the implementation processes of technology projects that implicate the business development team such as OEC and Eloqua.
  • Manage team and employee performance, providing regular feedback, guidance, and direction to ensure goals and business initiatives are met.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing or a related field.
  • Proven track record of success in sales management, with a minimum of 10+ years of experience leading a sales team.
  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and visual communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and cultivate a productive team environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify data-driven sales strategies that align with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional ability to understand, interpret, and leverage data.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to understand and establish required timelines to ensure all deadlines and objectives are met.
  • High performer and highly engaged leader.
  • Strong technical expertise and business background.
  • Exceptional time management and organization skills is required.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support business initiatives.


The annual base salary for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 with the potential of a performance-based bonus or incentive. While we anticipate this compensation range, it is not a guaranteed salary. Actual compensation can vary based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, responsibilities, and education.
