Position Summary

As a significant member of the DPSCD’s Client Services Team, the Senior Director of Field Services and Asset Management is responsible for providing effective and efficient levels of technical support and implementing the asset lifecycle management strategy for the District. This includes managing the acquisition, deployment, utilization, maintenance, repair, tracking, security and final disposition of all IT assets. The Senior Director leads the supervision, technical development and guidance of the Field Service and Asset Management technicians and manages the day-to-day activities of the team. This includes managing team schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for all locations and projects, arranging after-hours coverage for district events, addressing escalated issues, and maintaining and reporting team workload and response times through the district help desk.

Experience

We are looking for talented people who are passionate about transforming Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) and making a significant difference in the lives of public school students, parents, principals, teachers, and central office employees. This position requires seven (7) years of technology support/asset management experience. Must have strong leadership skills and at least five (5) years of experience leading large teams. Knowledge of audiovisual and telecommunications services and support is preferred. Candidate must have strong interpersonal communication, organization and problem-solving skills. Expertise and experience working in an urban public school district is a plus.

Essential Functions

Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Client Services, the Senior Director, Field Services and Asset Management shall:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of the department operational plan, including ambitious annual objectives with measurable results and projects that optimize the District’s technical, asset, deployment, recovery and audiovisual services.
  • Establish and implement best practices, protocols, policies and procedures for asset management, deployment, field support, and recovery within the District.
  • Establish and implement best practices, policies and procedures pertinent to the management of the district help desk system and customer engagement.
  • Assist with installation, upgrade and expansion projects including technology planning, managing and coordinating technical resources, and working with vendors to ensure timely, quality delivery of good and services as well as transfer of knowledge and documentation.
  • Schedule technical staff and other technical resources ensuring there is an appropriate allocation of technicians in field and assigned to asset management projects at all times, while also coordinating support and coverage for district events (during and after hours).
  • Develop and invest in the training and development of technicians by providing learning and networking opportunities to help staff meet the technical requirements for the job as well as for professional growth and development.
  • Develop, implement and maintain data and reporting systems to provide real-time displays of pertinent information related to technology assets and support for the District.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across the district and with all district stakeholders.
  • Coordinate across the technology team to ensure strong alignment, coordination and planning for shared work.
  • Act as technical expert and primary contact providing direct assistance with escalated events such as major outages or interruptions, and troubleshooting and resolving escalated end-user issues.
  • Provide training, technical support, and direct consultative support across departments.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the field services and asset management and deployment teams where team members have a understanding of their contributions to the District’s strategic priorities, clear expectations for their daily work, and avenues to share ideas and make meaningful contributions to team decisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
