Visa is seeking an experienced, senior communications professional steeped in financial communications and media relations. This leader will help the company transform our corporate communications efforts into storytelling that drives impact and action. The senior director of corporate communications will be a seasoned business leader across multiple disciplines including media relations, financial communications around M&A and quarterly earnings, executive visibility, crisis communications, public affairs and stakeholder communications. He/she will have established media relationships with top tier print and broadcast media globally. This individual will use their skills to develop and implement integrated corporate communications programs that focus on corporate reputation, thought leadership, financial/business media relations and executive visibility that position Visa as a purpose driven payment technology company.

This position will partner cross-functionally with a wide range of teammates and leaders across investor relations, brand, product, HR, legal and the broader global communications function. The senior director also will deliver strategic corporate reputation and communications counsel to Visa’s executive management to help the organization maintain its positive reputation among key stakeholders. This individual will also support the broader corporate communications team with media relations efforts, serving as a contact and spokesperson to media, including top-tier global, financial, trade and local journalists.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on self-starter with extensive corporate communications and media relations capabilities. Knowledge of and direct experience working in-house in a global corporate communications function is required. Financial communications experience is required. This individual must be a complete team player and have ability to work in a fast-paced environment within a highly matrixed, global organization. Agency and financial services experience is also a plus.

The role reports to the vice president of global corporate communications and can be based in either the San Francisco Bay Area or New York.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, development and execution of holistic, integrated communications initiatives, inclusive of thought leadership, media relations, executive visibility and corporate storytelling.
  • Lead strategy and execution around quarterly earnings, M&A and other financial communication initiatives.
  • Work with global communications leaders at Visa to ensure consistent storytelling and strategic alignment around paid/earned/owned and social content in all regions and markets.
  • Engage with senior executives to promote industry-leading initiatives and increase the overall positive industry awareness for the company through executive visibility programs, including speaking opportunities.
  • Serve as communications counselor and strategist to senior management.
  • Partner with other leaders on Visa’s global communications team to provide tools, expertise and counsel to help advance local market business objectives.
  • Develop high-quality written materials that convey Visa's corporate and purpose narrative including messaging platforms, press releases, blogs, Q&As, speeches, editorials & infographics.
  • Collaborate with the broader Global Corporate Communications team to ensure consistency of message and to tell bigger stories.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of business partners across all levels of the global organization.
  • Collaborate with the public affairs and issues management team on the early detection, identification and proper handling of opportunities or situations that may have a direct impact on Visa’s corporate reputation.
  • Develop and manage internal processes to enhance global coordination and alignment of communications activities (e.g., disclosure, speaking and media policies)
  • Employ social/digital media strategies to advance Visa’s business and communications goals.

Varies upon the needs of the department but will require some evening and weekend time.

Travel Requirements:

This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers, reach with hands and arms, and bend or lift up to 25 pounds.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree or at least 10

years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA

/JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree, 10 years of work

experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a

minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

  • 12-15 years public relations/communications experience (preferred)
  • Established corporate communications and media relations skills.
  • An excellent storyteller who can mentor and train others.
  • Must have proven experience managing executive visibility programs for C-

Suite leadership for leading, global brand(s).

  • Strong understanding of changing media landscape.
  • Experience in building and managing integrated paid/earned/owned/social

programs that deliver measurable results.

  • Experience executing branded content and other paid editorial programs.
  • Proven experience in multi-faceted program/project management, decision-

making, and driving results in cross-functional and/or cross-regional teams.

  • Ability to achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on

short deadlines.

  • Experience managing business issues and navigating/synthesizing various

viewpoints.

  • Experience coaching senior executives.
  • Active presence on social/digital platforms.
  • Understanding of how to use data and research to drive efforts.
  • Experience working in an integrated marketing & communications function.
  • Strong knowledge in technology and financial services industries.
  • Conversant in media measurement and analytics.
  • Proven ability to think ahead, engage proactively and take initiative.
  • Self-starter approach to work, organizational skills and strong problem solver.
  • Stellar writing and editing skills – PowerPoint plan development, news

releases, fact sheets, talking points, executive briefing documents.

  • Excellent persuasive written and verbal communications skills, including

interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment and with blurry

boundaries regarding roles/responsibilities.

  • Ability to work remotely with limited supervision.
  • Proven track record of managing staff and or/agency teams to achieve

measurable results.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 181,800.00 to 284,050.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
