Senior Curriculum Specialist (School of Professional Area Studies) - Arlington, VA
Background:
Kent, Campa and Kate Incorporated (KCK) is a federal contracting company that provides professional services to Government Agencies. We are currently seeking candidates for two (2) full-time Senior Curriculum Specialist positions in Arlington, VA supporting the Foreign Service Institute's (FSI) Front Office and School of Applied Information Technologies divisions.
Position Summary:
The Senior Curriculum Specialist instructional systems design experience using the ADDIE training model and acts as curricular leads working with subject matter experts and diverse working groups. Specialists bring strong consultation skills with proven experience on completing needs assessments that clearly and concisely demonstrate data-driven identification of business needs, performance gaps, and the KSAs (knowledge skills, and attitudes) required to address the issues identified, the ability to integrate various delivery modalities, training methods, and provide guidance and support for best practices associated with in-person, virtual, and blended learning; appropriate integration of educational technologies and experiential learning approaches; and effective application of adult learning theories. Specialists will work closely with the division Director and/or Deputy Director and partner with subject matter experts to advise, consult, and manage projects; and design and develop curricular solutions following the Foreign Service Institute(FSI)’s Policies and Standards for and with the Institute’s clients.
Required Qualifications:
An MS/MA in Instructional Design and 6+ years’ curriculum/instructional design experience, with proven ability in designing a variety of training courses (including, but not limited to, foreign affairs, tradecraft, or diplomatic training) using a broad array of delivery modalities (e.g., classroom, virtual, hybrid) and methodologies OR 10 years' experience with 24 credit hours in Learning theory, psychology of learning, educational psychology, Instructional design practices, Educational evaluation, Instructional product development, and/or Computers in education and training
Work samples that demonstrate instructional design experience; including a minimum of one work sample that is technology-based
MS/MA (or higher) in relevant field
Ability to obtain secret level clearance
Demonstrated experience in everything that has been stated in the “Duties and Responsibilities” category
Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Work on a team to assess, design, develop, pilot, implement, and evaluate training for an adult, professional audience
Design needs assessments and survey questionnaires used to gather data on training needs, reactions, application and organizational impact
Conduct and/or advise others in conducting needs assessment and analysis, and developing courseware according to industry-standard development models (such as ADDIE, SAM, or others)
Integrate formative assessment to include checklists, rubrics, and quizzes throughout the course design, both to ensure that learners are able to track their progress and that instructional staff are able to measure the extent to which learning is progressing as intended
Apply learning theories to create effective instructional designs
Review curricular, instructional, and needs assessment processes and approaches to identify and implement organizational improvements
Exercise technical expertise to advise, support, and assist subject matter experts and other staff in the Institute in the design, development, and use of tools, techniques, processes, and systems for curriculum development and maintenance
Exercise expertise in instructional design theory such as ADDIE or SAM2
Create content that has clear measurable objectives that are in alignment with the methods used in instruction
Create content that is engaging and fully follows the principles of experiential learning or other interactive methods of instruction
Identify and implement existing and innovative tools, techniques, best practices, reference materials, and approaches that support the Institute’s efforts to engage in all phases of curriculum design, development, assessment, and measurement of the achievement of learning objectives and training goals, as described in the FSI Policies and Standards, SPAS Standard Operating Procedures, and other relevant documentation, for training offered by the Institute
Create tools, templates, guidance, and reference materials that enable the institute to implement curriculum-related methodologies crucial for the training of U.S. Government foreign affairs professionals
Demonstrates best practices with visuals:
Minimal text on presentations and media
Clear pictures
Visuals that encompass DEIA principles
Modern graphics and images
Visuals are not busy or overwhelming
Visuals follow the 6x6 standard
Create technological content that is easy to navigate and incorporates modern industry standard tools and best practices
Demonstrate experience with a range of technology to include:

Adobe Captivate
Video
Animation Software
Educational gamification and assessments
PowerPoint
Presentation tools and software
Collaborate with staff on the establishment of guidelines and standard operating procedures for curriculum development
Identify best practices in content management and use for course materials development and management, tying curricular revisions to evaluation feedback, stakeholder needs, and/or updates in the domain of the course’s subject matter
Effective and professional communication and meeting facilitation skills in multicultural one-on-one and group settings, both in writing and verbally
Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to review/edit/consult on portfolio projects
Exercise an attitude of receptiveness to constructive feedback on portfolio projects/work from subject matter experts, colleagues, and supervisors
Participate and adhere to the team’s project management organizational system in order to keep track of deadlines and ensure quality work
