Senior Category Director

SR. WALMART CATEGORY DIRECTOR

We are seeking a Senior Walmart Category Director to join our team, responsible for overseeing and managing a specific category of products within our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, exceptional analytical skills, and a deep understanding of consumer behavior and market trends. This role is critical in ensuring that a retailer's product offerings align with consumer demand and market trends while also maximizing sales and profitability within that category.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Integrate with our company and Sales team while collaborating with Walmart and making strategic recommendations accordingly.
• Report to the SVP of Product Management while communicating with Walmart team on a daily basis.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the assigned product category. This includes setting goals, identifying target customer segments, and understanding market trends.
• Determine the assortment of products to be offered within the category. This involves selecting specific products, brands, and SKUs to include in the category's inventory.
• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers. Negotiate terms, including pricing, promotions, and supply agreements. Monitor supplier performance and ensure product quality.
• Optimize inventory levels to meet customer demand while minimizing overstock and understock situations. This may involve forecasting demand, managing stock turnover, and implementing inventory replenishment strategies.
• Set pricing strategies for products within the category, taking into account competitive pricing, margin goals, and customer sensitivity to pricing changes. Plan and execute promotional campaigns to drive sales.
• Manage visual merchandisers and store layout planners to ensure that products are displayed effectively in stores, both physically and online.
• Utilize sales data, market research, and customer insights to make informed decisions about the category. Analyze sales performance, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and adjust strategies as needed.
• Develop and manage the budget for the category, ensuring that financial goals are met. This may include cost control measures and revenue optimization.
• Work closely with other departments within the organization, such as marketing, supply chain, and operations, to align category strategies with overall business objectives.
• Ensure that all products within the category comply with relevant laws and regulations, including safety and labeling requirements.
• Understand customer preferences and behaviors to tailor the category's offerings to meet customer needs. Collect and respond to customer feedback and complaints.
• Present any analysis and hindsight learnings to Senior Management, with specific recommendations to grow and optimize revenue
• Monitor competitors in the market to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the category. Adjust strategies accordingly to maintain a competitive edge.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging products to identify opportunities for category growth and innovation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 7+ years experience working in retail category management, specifically within Walmart
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or related field (Master's preferred).
• Knowledge of Walmart principles and practices.
• Detail-oriented, self-sufficient and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
• Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
