Job Description

Job Purpose

Coordinates the procurement and distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies for the organization by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates all activities related to procurement of a commodity from intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Analyzes the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date commodity is needed.
  • Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested commodity.
  • Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.
  • Negotiates the lowest possible cost for the commodity balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs.
  • Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company.
  • Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
  • Coordinates appropriate methods needed to distribute commodity in a cost-effective manner.
  • Confers with suppliers concerning late delivers and/or quality issues.

Position Requirements

Education/Certifications/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university
  • One to two years related experience, and/or training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Computer Skills – basic PC skills including spreadsheet and word processing.
  • Language Skills – ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of suppliers or employees of the organization. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment

Full-Time, hours are dependent upon shift assignment. Additional hours as needed for meetings outside of normal working hours. Position is primarily in the office where the noise level is usually quiet. May occasional travel in the production areas, so employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and the noise level is loud. At times travel may be extensive and necessary to perform the duties outlined above.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
