A DAY IN THE LIFE
Our Senior Archeologist position is a Remote position supporting our client's Northern California group.
The Senior Archeologist directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organizing, controlling, integrating, and completing archaeological and general cultural resources projects within the area of assigned responsibility. The Senior Archeologist should have experience in managing and directing others on project assignments.
This position will apply knowledge of job areas typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities may include managing projects/processes, working independently with limited supervision, and coaching and reviewing the work of team members. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.
Responsibilities:
* The Senior Archeologist maintains a positive relationship with clients and public agencies, and prepares and reviews documents.
* Develops budgets and schedules, prepares proposals, leads and supervises a team, and manages contract compliance.
* Work directly with clients and regulatory agencies to oversee project compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
* Oversees the execution of archaeological fieldwork.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the Senior Archeologist position:
* Master's degree in archaeology/anthropology or related discipline/similar field.
* 10+ years of relevant work experience as an archaeologist in California, with 3-4 years in an office/management-type role.
* Meets the Secretary of Interior's professional qualification standards in Archaeology.
* Ability to be listed as a Field Director on federal and state permits.
* Experience with developing budgets and schedules, preparing proposals, and managing contracts.
* Proven experience with project management, including the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
* Proven experience managing a team of individuals, including directing assignments, workloads, and career development.
* Demonstrated ability to lead survey, testing, and mitigation projects and experience surveying, monitoring, and evaluating cultural resources.
* Varied experience completing research and preparing technical reports and agency submittals, data collection, and regulatory documents in compliance with CEQA and Section 106.
* Experience serving as the technical leader for cultural resources projects, including addressing built environment resources and tribal cultural resources.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and ability to use related computer systems and software. GIS experience using ArcGIS and other ESRI software is a plus.
* Experience working with federal, state, and local legislation affecting cultural resources.
* Strong communication and organizational skills and attention to detail.
