Senior Advisor (Language Access)

Position Title: Senior Advisor (Language Access)

Location: Remote

  • Spearhead the establishment of language access compliance policies and procedures, encompassing procurement, software and web development, content creation and dissemination, and oversight of websites and digital platforms.
  • Review and provide feedback and direction on proposed language access policies, procedures, and initiatives across Operating and Staff Divisions.
  • Centralize language access resources and advocate for language access directives throughout the Department. Enhance staff awareness of telephonic language services, translation services, and other language support resources available. Collaborate with public-facing components to enhance program accessibility for diverse language communities and ensure consistent application of language access policy Department-wide.
  • Collaborate with Operating and Staff Divisions to establish:
  • A centralized unit for accessing interpreters or translations, including an inventory of internal resources and existing contracts.
  • An intra-agency working group on language access to ensure uniform language assistance.
  • An internal repository of commonly translated documents and a department-wide translation glossary.
  • Standard language assistance notices, flyers, posters, and web page templates.
  • Guidance on document translation and targeting languages.
  • Translations of commonly accessed webpages and technical assistance for ongoing language access needs.
  • Forge partnerships with federal language access coordinators to advance language access goals.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts and deliver language access training to ensure staff proficiency.
  • Facilitate meetings of the Language Access Steering Committee (LASC), oversee LASC deliverables, and support the implementation and updating of Language Access Plans.
  • Provide guidance to technology providers, acquisition teams, communications and training groups, civil rights and language access officials, human resources staff, legal staff, and other federal language access services contacts.

Education: Minimum requirement is a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a focus on international relations, plus at least four years of relevant specialized experience equivalent to the GS-15 level in the Federal Government. Certifications in translations and interpretations are preferable.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be considered, provided the experience is equivalent to four years specialized experience equivalent to the GS-15 level in the Federal Government.
