Our Los Angeles client is seeking is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager for a newly created position, due to growth at the company. You will report to the Vice President of Financial Reporting, and will maintain accurate financial records and drive success across a diverse property portfolio. This role is divided into 40% technical and 60% operational accounting.


What you will do:

Technical Accounting:

  • Lead implementation and application of new accounting pronouncements relevant to the real estate industry.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex accounting issues including revenue recognition, lease accounting, and fair value assessments.

Financial Oversight and Review:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Property Accounting Department.
  • Review property-level financial statements for accuracy and compliance with GAAP. (No actual property accounting is performed in this role.)

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements.
  • Generate insightful management reports to support strategic decision-making.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide oversight in variance analysis and recommend corrective actions.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Manage cash flow projections and optimize working capital.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate reporting of construction and development costs.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement efficiency improvements within the accounting function.


What you need for success:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation (or close to) required.
  • 5-8 years of experience in technical accounting within the real estate industry.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and relevant accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606, ASC 842).
  • Previous experience in a managerial role, leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information effectively.
