About the role

As a Senior Accountant at Medterra, you will play a pivotal role in our finance team, where your talents in financial management and strategic thinking will drive our organization forward. The position is characterized by meticulous financial management, operational efficiency, compliance, effective problem-solving, strong communication, and a proactive approach to process improvement and project management.


Success for this role encompasses several key areas:

Accuracy and Timeliness: The Senior Accountant consistently delivers precise and punctual financial reporting. This includes conducting monthly reconciliations, journal entries, and ensuring adherence to GAAP principles. Achievement is evidenced by minimal discrepancies, meeting deadlines consistently, and providing dependable financial data.


Operational Efficiency: Efficiently managing high-volume transactions and complex accounting processes is pivotal. Achievement here involves optimizing workflows, reducing turnaround times for tasks like vendor payments, reconciliations, and month-end closes, thereby enhancing overall operational efficiency.


Financial Compliance: Ensuring full compliance with applicable financial regulations and internal policies is essential. Achievement includes maintaining audit preparedness, providing accurate audit schedules, and supporting successful audits with minimal discrepancies.


Problem Solving and Analysis: Success involves effectively identifying financial challenges, analyzing root causes, and proposing effective solutions. This includes resolving day-to-day issues and enhancing financial processes and controls over time.


Communication and Collaboration: Success hinges on clear communication with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and potentially vendors or clients. Effectively communicating financial information and proactive collaboration contribute significantly to overall organizational success.


Project Management and Initiative: Successfully managing TBD projects related to EU & UK and Intercompany transactions requires proactive planning, effective coordination with relevant teams, and achieving project milestones within agreed timelines.


Continuous Improvement: The Senior Accountant actively seeks opportunities to refine financial processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and improve operational efficiency. This involves staying abreast of industry best practices, implementing beneficial tools or technologies, and contributing to the continuous growth and development of the finance function.


Responsibilities:

  • Analyze expenses and expense accruals to ensure accurate monthly recording.
  • Review vendor statement reconciliations and reconcile prepaid accounts.
  • Ensure timely vendor payments and apply reasonable discounts.
  • Reconcile monthly credit card transactions and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations with attention to detail.
  • Apply and reconcile DTC prepayments for Medterra and Five on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Generate cash returns and process customer refunds included in DTC deposits for Medterra and Five.
  • Apply and reconcile Affirm prepayments for Medterra.
  • Reconcile Vena's cash and credit card accounts.
  • Create sales orders/invoices and apply payments for Amazon FBA & FBM.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP in all accounting tasks.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Assist in year-end audit preparation and provide necessary audit schedules.
  • Sales and Use Tax reporting as required.
  • Manage cost of goods sold and inventory processing, including reconciliation.
  • Conduct AR reconciliations.
  • Prepare and post journal entries to general ledger accounts.
  • Address TBD projects related to EU & UK and Intercompany for Medterra, Vena, Five, Pharma, and EU & UK.
  • Showcase strong analytical and problem-solving skills to recommend optimal solutions.
  • Flexibility to handle shifting priorities and deadlines.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred.
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably in high-volume e-commerce and consumer goods industry.
  • Experience with Mass Market Retailers (e.g., Walgreens, CVS, Grocery) preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, V-lookups, etc.).
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation abilities.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and large ERP systems preferred.
