The Senior Accountant II is responsible for assisting the Controller / Accounting Department Lead in planning and managing accounting activities within the Accounting Department to ensure accurate and timely job costing, client billing, and monthly financial close by performing the following duties, personally or through subordinates in a timely manner and within department/company standard operating procedures.


While maintaining domain expertise in accounting principles as a continuous learner, this person will quickly develop deep understanding of the business they support and its complexities, which will support their ability to add value to as a business partner and advance operational effectiveness within their department. Their experience and sound judgment will be applied to developing, communicating, and delivering on both operational department goals as well as project-specific department goals.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive month-end closing and financial reporting processes including Journal entry review and posting, account analysis and reconciliations, with final reviews by Controller / Accounting Department Lead and CFO.

• Responsible for completeness and accuracy of monthly general ledger reconciliations and analyses.

• Support monthly revenue recognition process.

• Monitor Billing team to ensure timely and accuracy invoicing to the client.

• Monitor aging of project AR balances throughout the month and oversee management and collection of all receivables.

• Ensure Accounts Payable team processes all bills on a timely basis and payments are made in accordance with payment terms.

• Ensure jobs are reconciled and closed timely.

• Train and supervise Accounting Specialists within company/departmental guidelines. • Support Controller with annual audit process.

• Oversee preparation of 1099s, 1042s and other local tax filings to ensure reporting deadlines are met. • Provide account teams and management with timely reviews of financial status of client projects and progress (aka monthly financial reviews).

• Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures and internal controls.

• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training and developing employees (i.e. planning, assigning, and directing work), appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.


REQUIREMENTS


Skills and Abilities

• Tech-minded with experience using Microsoft Office; above average proficiency in Excel is required.

• Strong communicator and interpersonal skills

• Ability to manage a high-performing accounting team that can contribute positively to the organization.

• Adept at interacting effectively in a highly client satisfaction focused environment.

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a four-year college or university.

• 5+ years of related experience

• 1+ years of people management experience with a demonstrated ability to lead/develop staff preferred.

• CPA is a plus.

• Prior experience with NetSuite is a plus.

• Experience managing remote teams is a plus.
