Director of Security

Education & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Obtain and keep up to date with First aid and CPR knowledge/ training.
  • Basic supervisory and disciplinary skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with parents, school district personnel, and representatives of other agencies.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.

Reports to: Superintendent

This position would be two-fold (administering district security and serving as security for the district office and campus housing in Batesland). Due to increased on-going needs of providing safe school environments throughout the district, this position would oversee and coordinate all security related initiatives/practices for students and staff (such as the new ALICE Alert-Lockdown-Inform-Counter-Evacuate school safety program). This position would also be responsible for on-going training needs of security staff at each respective school.

Also responsible for ensuring the security of the personnel, material/equipment and information of an organization from physical assault, fraud, industrial espionage/sabotage, robbery and arson by competitors, scamsters or terrorists.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and oversees implementation of comprehensive security systems for protection of individuals, homes, business, commercial and industrial organizations under his responsibility.
  • Analyzes data of internal operations and plans and directs installation of electronic security systems, such as closed circuit surveillance, entry controls, burglar alarms, ultrasonic motion detectors, electric eyes, and outdoor perimeter and microwave alarms.
  • Plans and directs personal security and safety of individuals, family, or group.
  • Investigates crimes committed against personnel during work hours such as fraud, robbery, arson, and patent infringement.
  • Reports criminal information to authorities and report to appropriate staff.
  • Assist the school administration with anyone who is causing a disruption, truancy issues, and criminal activities occurring on OLCSD School, district and housing campuses.
  • Assist with District school security in the absence of building security personnel.
  • Attend conferences with students, parents, and faculty members when necessary to assist them with law enforcement issues and or crime prevention.
  • Adhere to and keep updated on school policies and procedures.

Skills and Specifications

  • Ability to work independently and to take emergent decisions.
  • Should have undergone appropriate training in Security Management.
  • Preferably is a former member of Police Force or related field.
  • Required to reside within the OLCSD housing campus for on-call status as deemed necessary.
  • Coordinates with building principal in supervision of the school resource officers.

OTHER DUTIES: Other duties may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year will be established by the Oglala Lakota County School Board and/or Administration.

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Superintendent.
