Job Description: Elsie is looking to hire a Scientist to join its research team in San Diego, California to help push the development of Elsie’s proprietary ultra-high throughput discovery platform. This is an ideal position for researcher or technologist with experience in molecular biology or cell biology and an interest in oligonucleotide therapeutics. A candidate that thrives in a team oriented, fast-paced, and cross disciplinary environment will excel at in this position. This candidate will have a hands-on-role contributing to the development of Elsie’s proprietary discovery engine and the integration of in house high-throughput oligonucleotide library synthesis and use capability. Our ideal candidate will bring a wide breadth of experience and interest that may span molecular biology assay development, to next-generation sequencing assay technologies, to a working understanding of oligonucleotide synthesis. This position will work closely with researcher across backgrounds, from organic chemistry to neurobiology, to support and advance Elsie’s drug discovery platform. Responsibilities: Lead the design, analysis, and development of new assays for use in Elsie’s proprietary therapeutic discovery platform using molecular and cell biology techniques Lead the analysis and processing of next generation sequencing data derived from the discovery platform Work collaboratively to ensure that oligonucleotide libraries are fit for purpose to enable high-throughput screening by discovery platform Participate in the pipeline deployment of novel screens to continually enable proprietary therapeutic discovery Work collaboratively to use the discovery platform to create fit-for-purpose data sets to enable Elsie’s AL/ML efforts Operate with excellent cross functional collaboration skills to ensure chemistry, biology, and platform inputs are considered and met Qualifications and experience: Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Organic chemistry, or related discipline with experience in oligonucleotide chemistry and molecular biology Experience in assay development techniques, NGS assay development especially of interest Experience with basic oligonucleotide (RNA/DNA) manipulation techniques (ex: OPC, ligations, desalting, nucleolytic degradations) Familiarity with chemically modified oligonucleotides and oligonucleotide synthesis is a plus Familiarity with next generation sequencing procedures, library preparation, and theory is a plus Background in oligonucleotide therapeutic drug discovery is a plus Ability to perform self-directed research with a sense of urgency and positive, can-do attitude Ability and desire to learn and contribute across functional groups Elsie offers competitive compensation and benefits.
