Scientist/Sr Scientist - Molecular Biology

ImmunoVec is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Scientist or Senior Scientst to join our Gene and Cell Therapy team. We are a well-funded, innovative biotech startup based in Westwood, Los Angeles. Building upon foundational work out of the UCLA Gene Therapy Program, which has produced multiple treatments for genetic disorders, our team of leading biologists, computer scientists, and business entrepreneurs is accelerating the development of innovative treatments for life-threatening genetic diseases. Our team has already developed proprietary vectors to treat genetic disorders and we are rapidly expanding our pipeline into larger indications in oncology and autoimmunity.


A successful candidate will be proactive, well-organized, and capable of designing, optimizing, and executing complex molecular screens including Massively Parallel Reporter Assays (MPRAs). This position is ideal for an individual who is entrepreneurial and eager to grow their skills within a collaborative and supportive team of scientists.


Responsibilities:


  • Design, construct, and perform complex, novel molecular screens including Massively Parallel Reporter Assays (MPRAs) and large (50,000+ sgRNA) CRISPR screens
  • Lead a team of 2-3 Research Associates within the Molecular Biology division
  • Work directly with heads of the computational, cell culture, and late-stage R&D teams to design novel molecular biology workflows
  • Design, optimize and execute workflows for DNA library generation/cloning, Next Generation Sequencing, single cell and bulk ATAC-seq, single cell and bulk RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, CAGE
  • Assist in preparing regulatory documents, including FDA and grant applications
  • Keep current on literature, trends, and new technology and methods in the field of Genomics, Gene Regulation, and Cell and Gene Therapy


The ideal candidate will thrive if they:


  • Have completed a PhD in a relevant area such as genetics, gene regulation, molecular biology, or other relevant field with a track record of high impact publications
  • Have strong, in-depth molecular biology laboratory experience in designing and executing complex molecular screens, especially MPRA and large CRISPR screens
  • Are eager to train and supervise junior scientists in problem solving, scientific reasoning, and molecular biology techniques.
  • Can think critically and creatively across multiple disciplines and demonstrate excellent abilities in assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting
  • Are ambitious, goal-oriented, and eager to thrive in a dynamic and fast-growing startup environment
