School Readiness Instructor

“Helping students reach new heights.” School-Based Behavior Consultation focuses on skill development & challenging behavior reduction for student success! SBBC provides ABA therapy & behavior support interventions in-school & in-home to improve social skills, academics, vocational skills, functional skills, & communication. This is accomplished through the use of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) & in collaboration with other specialists, school staff, the students we serve, & caregivers.

Vision: We envision individuals with autism spectrum disorder throughout East Central Indiana gaining access to more inclusive settings and having greater autonomy in life, as a result of SBBC’s service provision.

Position Overview

The School Readiness Instructor will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and providing academically and socially focused experiential learning opportunities for SBBC clients in the community and Early Learners clinic settings in order to increase school-readiness skills. The School Readiness Instructor will be responsible for selecting research based instructional strategies for preschoolers and incorporating ABA methods that increase skill acquisition and reduce interfering behaviors.

Compensation

  • $19-$22 per hour
  • Includes the following benefits:
    • Major medical, vision, and dental, supplemental insurance, unemployment insurance, workman’s compensation, and social security and medicare taxes
    • PTO accrued based on length of time with the company, starting at 5 hours per 150 worked and increasing annually
    • Five paid holidays per year
    • Retirement - 100% match on the first 3% of compensation + 50% match on the next 2% of compensation
Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee the implementation of SBBC’s early learners academic group and socialization activities.
  • Provide curriculum, materials, and structured implementation for all educational implementation for children ages 3-6.
  • Provide curriculum, materials, and structured implementation for children older than 6 based on individual need and goals.
  • Prepare and/or arrange for all materials that are needed for the smooth operation of educational activities.
  • Handle monetary and budgetary requirements for groups and activities according to approved Agency procedures for check requests, petty cash, receipts/documentation and payouts for food, materials and transportation.
  • Develop collaboration with host sites for group socialization and arrange for room usage.
  • Plan special events and trips for participants.
    • Work with SBBC clinical team to involve participants in these events.
    • Make all arrangements, including meals and transportation, and participate in the actual event.
  • Monitor and ensure education files for each child are properly documented and ensure the ongoing assessment/screening of each child enrolled in the program.
  • Ensure family/child reviews and parent teacher conferences are held and monitor follow-up processes.
  • Manage all education reports and monitoring, including those in Hi Mama.
  • Monitor and ensure attendance is input into the data system on a weekly basis.
  • Participate in the development of program policies, service delivery plans and ongoing monitoring of program quality.
  • Ensure all assigned program reports are completed and submitted on a timely matter.
  • Ensure all confidential information is protected.
  • In conjunction with the Family Support Coordinator participate in recruitment efforts of program participants to help maintain full program enrollment.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Director to develop effective partnership with families by addressing parents’ concerns.
  • Serve as an advocate for client families and as a liaison between families, the program, and the large community.
  • Suggest recommendations for program changes and improvements to the PreSchool Director and/or Clinical Director in response to observed client needs.
  • Participate in on-going training and professional development.
  • Provide transition coordination in collaboration with other schools to support SBBC client integration into school settings.
  • Maintain an inventory of all educational equipment.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings, education meetings, and SBBC meetings related to the position or as assigned.
  • Integrate other components, i.e. health, nutrition, mental health, parent involvement and special needs into the group academics and socialization activities.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements

  • Preferred - Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education; or equivalent coursework in early childhood education with early education teaching experience
  • Preferred - Registered behavior technician certification

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years experience teaching in preschool or similar setting
  • Experience working with individuals with neurodiversities, such as autism spectrum disorder
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a cooperative attitude
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Working knowledge of Google applications (e.g Gmail, Sheets, Slide, Meet, etc)

Additional Requirements

  • CPR and CPI certification
  • Drug screen and criminal background check required for hire

DIRECT SUPERVISOR

The School Readiness Instructor reports directly to the School Readiness Program Director.

Physical Requirements

While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand for periods of time, move around the work site, move from one work site to another, sit at a desk.
  • Stoop, kneel or crouch to assist students.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move materials up to fifty pounds.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders by talking and listening.
  • Operate a computer and other technology devices.
  • Read and analyze data (close visual acuity).
