School Psychologist

The following position is is available for the 2024-25 School Year

Job Description

Serve the district as a leader in data-based decision making, problem solving, research, and best practices in the fields of education, disabilities, school psychology, mental health, and child development. Consult with other district leaders (e.g., directors, supervisors, coaches) toward district goals of student academic achievement and mental wellness in addition to completing assessments, multi-factored evaluations, and consultation regarding individual students consistent with state mandated requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as chairperson of the Building(s) Intervention Assistance Team and multi-factored evaluation team
  • Consult with school personnel in identifying children who need individual assessment(s)
  • Provide intensive psycho-educational evaluations of individual children suspected of having educational disabilities
  • Select and administer appropriate assessment instruments to determine educational needs and eligibility for special education services
  • Review school records and consult with school personnel, parents, agency representatives, physicians and other appropriate personnel for facts of diagnostic significance
  • Gather all information from Multifactored Evaluation/Evaluation Team Report (MFE/ETR) members and compile a written team report delineating the results of the team evaluation including recommendations for programs and services and suggestions for Individual Educational Programs (IEP)
  • Interpret test findings, observations, and recommendations to parents, students (if appropriate), teachers, principals, counselors, and other appropriate school personnel
  • Consult with teachers, principals, parents, and other educational personnel on matters relating to the education, behavior, and/or mental health of students
  • Assist teachers in implementing or modifying instruction, classroom management, and intervention strategies
  • Consult with school personnel regarding retention/promotion, changes in academic programs, shifts to other classrooms or teachers, transfers to other schools, and referrals to selected remedial programs
  • Provide short-term counseling for special education students
  • Every three years, or more frequently if conditions warrant reevaluate students receiving special education services
  • Participate in and help conduct in-service training programs and staff development, when requested by the Director of Student Services
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidential information
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required
  • Collaborate with colleagues
  • Observe ethics of the teaching profession
  • Keep current knowledge of all rules and regulations regarding special education standards
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Student Services

Other Duties And Responsibilities

  • Promote good public relations
  • Provide mental health activities for children within the scope of school-based practice
  • Maintain Medicaid logs
  • Serve as a role model for students
  • Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials
  • Represent the district at local, state and regional activities/committees as agreed to
  • Participate in intervention assistance team meetings
  • Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
  • Counsel, advise, encourage, and motivate students
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services/Superintendent or designee

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in educational psychology or equivalent from a four-year college or university
  • Appropriate State of Ohio certifications/license
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

  • Occasional travel, e.g., attending professional development outside of district, evaluation, assessment, IEP and placement, meetings outside of district
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to work on all scheduled school days, except calamity days
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds
  • Occasional requirement to operate school district vehicle
