School Principal

Position Summary: To work collaboratively with the Director of Education in overseeing the delivery of appropriate educational services to individuals served as well as ensure that all policies and procedures are strictly adhered to with updates as needed.

Primary Duties & Essential Functions

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, guidelines and regulations regarding education of special needs and non-special needs children in the state of New York, including Part 100 and Part 200 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Knowledge of the provision of educational services to disabled and non-disabled children.
  • Knowledge of federal and state grants applicable to education programs in similar settings.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of teacher competencies, training, supervision and appraisal.
  • Understand and support the Agency Mission/Vision.
  • Accurate, timely and professional reporting to the Principal and Director of Education.
  • Assistant in the administration of federal and state grants applicable to the delivery of educational services to individuals served.
  • Assist in the oversight of the delivery of appropriate educational programs to individuals served.
  • Provide positive leadership to all staff and volunteers within the Educational Services Division.
  • Participate in the screening, interviewing, hiring, training, support and evaluation of teachers.
  • Provide and maintain appropriate and professional collaboration/communication with other agency staff, volunteers, families, referral sources and community members.
  • Assume other responsibilities that belong to all education staff members such as participation in the behavior management program, insuring the health, safety and supervision of students and enforcing the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Required Education, Knowledge And Skills

  • Master's degree in education with New York State Certification as a school administrator.
  • Minimum of 2 years successful experience with at-risk youth and or youth with special education needs.
  • Minimum of 2 years successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Experience in interviewing, hiring, supervising and appraisal of staff.

Salary Range: $80,000- $90,000 based on experience.
