School Counselor - High School

This position allows remote reporting three days per week with two required days of onsite reporting.

Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School is a state-wide, public (tuition-free) K-12 online charter school with a substantial number of students. Our teachers are part of an educational team whose innovative approach to education is providing a dynamic learning experience for students across the state of Pennsylvania through cyber education. All teachers report to work throughout our various locations in Pennsylvania.

This position is responsible for providing high school students with developmental, educational, preventative and responsive services with the intent of encouraging and supporting student learning and achievement. This position reports to the Supervisor of School Counseling.

Essential Duties

  • Select courses for new and returning students.
  • Foster positive personal/social development in students.
  • Collaborate and communicate with parents/learning coaches.
  • Attend IEP/504 meetings as needed.
  • Monitor students' academic progress
  • Monitor student progress toward meeting graduation pathway requirements.
  • Maintain School Counseling courses with appropriate resources.
  • Collaborate with principal, teachers, advisors, and other faculty & staff.
  • Provide counseling/ crisis intervention as needed.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • PA K-12 Counseling Certification
  • SAP Certification a plus
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, and coworkers using a variety of modes (email, instant messaging, phone)
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers, parents, administration, staff, etc. to promote student success
  • Ability to multitask – manage time effectively
  • Proficiency with using various forms of technology (Microsoft Office, email etc.)
  • Ability to refer to outside resources when necessary
  • Ability to develop academic plans for students who are out of school for long periods of time
  • Ability to respond to a variety of student calls and/or e-mails in an appropriate and timely manner

Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands

  • Physical: Normal vision, speech, hearing, walking, sitting, standing, lifting, stooping, bending, grasping, keyboarding, and filing ability
  • Mental: Positive Attitude, analyzing, problem solving, decision making, and writing.
  • Environmental: Online, office, blended school environment
