Position Overview
As an SBA Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in our SBA Lending Division by assessing and documenting credit risks for term loans. You will serve as the primary liaison between our business development officers, borrowers, and the US Small Business Administration.
Responsibilities
Evaluate loan applications for small to mid-size commercial businesses and professional practices based on current SBA guidelines.
Utilize judgmental analysis to underwrite loans ranging from $200,000 to $5,000,000, including owner-occupied commercial real estate, equipment, business acquisitions, expansions, and debt refinancing.
Conduct detailed financial statement analysis, assess business history, collateral adequacy, and management's creditworthiness.
Identify and mitigate credit weaknesses and policy exceptions.
Manage client relationships and collaborate closely with the sales team.
Conduct ongoing portfolio management including annual reviews, credit facility renewals, financial monitoring, and servicing modification requests.
Requirements
Strong analytical skills with expertise in structuring SBA loans.
Proficiency in real estate loan processes including appraisals, title, and land surveys.
Knowledge of SBA loan products and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Ability to thrive in a team environment and handle workload pressures independently.
Excellent communication skills with clients and stakeholders.
Proficiency in MS Office; ability to adapt to new technological systems quickly.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
Formal credit training is a plus.
Physical Demands
Combination of standing and sitting; frequent use of PC.
