The purpose of this position is to assist in litter collection, field operations, assists the sanitation leader, provides/assists with vehicle operations and performs responsible skilled work operating litter collection and illegal dumping vehicles on routes and or assignments throughout the City.
This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Essential Safety Functions
It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices. Each employee must follow safety training and instructions provided by their supervisor. Each employee must also properly wear and maintain all personal protective equipment required for their job. Finally, each employee must immediately report any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injury or illnesses.Â
Every manager/supervisor is responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations. In addition, they are responsible for ensuring that a safe work environment is maintained, safe work practices are followed, and employees are properly trained.

Emergency Management Responsibilities
Note: During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. Â City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as hurricane, or other emergency situations and are expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.

- Collects litter throughout the city, its beaches, and other assigned areas.
- Empties trash and recycling receptacles at beach, parks, bus stops, and facilities.
- As needed, delivers collected waste (litter) to the City's designated disposal facility(s).
- Conducts daily pre/post trip vehicle inspections on all equipment used and documents same on the appropriate form for maintenance shop's use.
- Cleans vehicles as necessary at the end of the day and keeps vehicles in a clean state at all times.
- Performs normal maintenance and service on equipment using hand tools and or power tools, either separately or in conjunction with equipment being operated or tasks being performed.
- Transports employees, materials, tools, and or equipment.
- Operates various collection equipment such as, but not limited to, Solid Waste/Recycling vehicles.
- Assists the Sanitation Leader and Supervisor in addressing illegal dumping issues.
- Assists Solid Waste/Recycling Supervisor(s) as needed or as assigned to other duties required from time to time.
- Assist as helpers, for Front End Load and Rear load trucks as required.Â
- Collects and disposes of dead animals as required from time to time from City streets, and parks.Â
- Logs all daily work. Performs all other related duties as required.
- Identifies any unsafe condition(s) or work practices which could result in accidents, injuries, or financial liability to the City, and reports to management.
- Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.Â
- High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment and various light duty collection vehicles or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
- Valid Florida CDL, Class B preferred with an acceptable driving history.
- Knowledge of the geography of the City and the litter collection routes serviced by their crews.
- Skill in avoiding traffic hazards and operational hazards, such as low utility lines.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and to deal effectively with the public.Â
- Ability to use light duty equipment and machinery.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

- Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
- Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
- Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
- Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
- Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
- Traffic; Moving machinery.
- Electrical shock; Heights.
- Radiation; Disease/pathogens.
- Monday - Friday 6:30am- 3:00pm (May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays to meet the business needs of the City.)
