Sales Representative - Police/Fire - Central Maryland

The Federal Signal Sales Representative will be responsible for increasing sales to meet sales objectives for territory, leads sales effort to develop new account opportunities and maintains awareness of market trends and competition. The ideal candidate is based in Central Maryland.

Key Activities/Responsibilities

  • Coordinates activities to obtain assigned new business and sales quota.
  • Communicates with business unit personnel concerning the business environment, how our products rate in the marketplace, price sensitivity, product mix, technology, market trends, etc.
  • Responds in a timely and effective manner to competitive and market opportunities as well as communications from distributors, dealers, OEMs, end users and the factory.
  • Communicates to manufacturer reps and group staff on all pertinent matters of mutual concern.
  • Partner with Sales Manager within region to implements an annual sales plan.
  • Coordinates participation in local, state, regional and national trade shows with non-sales staff as required.
  • Maintains quarterly market coverage documentation.
  • Contributes positively to the corporate bottom line through effective expense control.
  • Facilitates information flow to the factory, sales reps and accounts in a timely fashion.
  • Works with inside sales team to maintain all quotations within assigned territory and ensures an acceptable level of margin.
  • Forecasts with assistance accurately; sales by product on a monthly basis to coordinate production schedules and ensure timely delivery of products.
  • Monitors administrative responsibilities to meet deadlines set by group management (e.g., expense reports, new business reports, quarterly narratives, monthly schedules, and/ or forecasts, etc.).

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study preferred (e.g., Business, Marketing, etc.)
  • 0 -3 years of sales experience
  • Successful internship or work experience at a product-based company with focus in marketing, communication or sales
  • Willingness to travel extensively
  • Working knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet plus strong customer issue trouble-shooting capabilities using multiple channels
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively communicating information, both verbally and in written word to diverse audiences

Federal Signal has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer I based at our University Park, Illinois facility. This position is responsible for assisting in making decisions regarding engineering problems for products in our Police & Fire Division.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops layouts concepts, parameters and designs for new and existing product re-designs.
  • Performs analysis as required to insure meeting product performance and reliability requirements.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and prepares preliminary cost estimates of designs and redesigns.
  • Assists in generating detail specifications of individual components of a new design and replacement components in end of life and cost reductions projects.
  • Communicates with vendors where engineering is required to develop specifications for components and processes.
  • May write rough draft of changes to customer instruction sheet.
  • Builds prototype PC Boards as required for product development evaluation.
  • Works with Quality Control in approving vendor's parts.
  • Writes Engineering Change Requests and product structures.
  • May assist Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance in vendor selection.
  • Assist functional engineering groups when required for Electrical/software support and development for New Product Development (NPD) efforts.
  • Utilize basic automotive electrical assembly knowledge methods.
  • Knowledge of power supply design preferred.
  • Knowledge of audio/amplifier design preferred.
  • Ability to learn and create schematic diagrams for electrical systems for new products and modifications for existing electrical systems.
  • Flexibility to perform other duties and assignments as required.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience
  • Basic troubleshooting skills
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of C and Python programming languages
