Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety Officer (SO) to oversee the development and implementation of safety programs and protocols within our organization. The Safety Officer will be responsible for identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, promoting a culture of safety among staff, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.
  • Experience in occupational safety and health, with demonstrated expertise in safety program development, implementation, and compliance.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, codes, and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and safety management software.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety Program Development: Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive safety programs and policies to prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses. Continuously assess and update safety protocols to reflect best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments of workplace environments, equipment, and processes to identify potential safety hazards. Develop and implement corrective actions and control measures to mitigate risks and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Safety Training and Education: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, covering topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response procedures, and safe work practices. Ensure that employees receive adequate training and resources to perform their jobs safely.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and contributing factors. Develop recommendations for corrective actions and preventive measures to reduce the risk of recurrence. Maintain accurate records of safety incidents and reportable events as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, codes, and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations. Monitor regulatory changes and updates, and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for various types of emergencies, such as fires, chemical spills, and medical emergencies. Conduct drills and exercises to test emergency response capabilities and identify areas for improvement.
  • Safety Communication and Promotion: Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization through effective communication, training, and recognition programs. Encourage employee involvement in safety initiatives and empower them to identify and report safety concerns.
  • Vendor and Contractor Safety Management: Evaluate the safety performance of vendors and contractors, including subcontractors and service providers, and ensure that they comply with safety requirements and standards when working on-site.

Compensation | Min: $81,000 Max: $114,000

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
