Exciting opportunity in the Denver area for an experienced safety leader to join a groundbreaking organization fighting climate change. Chemical manufacturing or heavy industrial manufacturing experience is highly desired.

As the Safety Leader, you’ll be responsible for proactively reducing risk and preventing injuries through implementing a combination of regulatory compliance and safety best practices. You’ll work closely with our operations and engineering teams leading safety briefings before shifts and ensuring best-in-class operations by making regular safety recommendations and improvements.

We are looking for an experienced safety professional that will build a trusted relationship with our operators and can set up a program that extends well beyond the OSHA regulations and requirements to become industry-leading in how we approach safety. This role will develop custom training that fits the needs of our team and will be tasked with delivery and compliance across the organization. We are also looking to develop on-call support for our operating teams as we continue to scale-up our operations in each of these markets.

The ideal candidate is a credentialed professional with regulatory compliance experience across a wide variety of safety programs (e.g., hazardous materials management, lockout / tagout, fall protection, emergency response, electrical safety, respiratory protection, etc.) with a desire to build a strong, flexible and positive safety culture while driving continual improvement.

The Safety Leader will also be tasked with collaborating with the Site Ops and Facilities teams to ensure full compliance in our other locations. This role will also collaborate with our operations team to develop long-term scaling of the safety function and build out our future team structure as we begin to ramp up mobile deployments.

This role reports to our Senior EH&S Manager and will be based in Colorado with consistent monthly travel to our other operations.

About this Role:

Responsibilities:

  • In this role, you’ll provide guidance to fellow employees regarding regulatory requirements and set up systems to maintain regulatory compliance and identify hazards. You’ll perform evaluations of work areas to ensure our safety standards are being met, and work with the team to correct any identified non conformances and communicate opportunities for improvement
  • You will develop, implement, and review safety policies and procedures specific to company and/or field operations, ensuring alignment with industry regulations and best practices
  • You will lead RCAs for serious near misses or adverse safety events employing cause and effect methodologies to determine root cause(s). You’ll draft and update training. JHAs and SOPs as appropriate to reflect changes and learnings from those efforts and follow up to ensure completion of corrective actions
  • You’ll analyze safety data to provide trends for both leading and tagging indicators
  • You will be responsible for managing chemical inventories, ensuring compliance with hazardous and universal waste regulations and coordinating waste disposal
  • You’ll facilitate and coordinate safety training, maintain training records, ensure employees receive appropriate training, and design methods to gauge training effectiveness
  • You’ll champion a safety observations program to encourage regular feedback from the team regarding potentially unsafe conditions, and work to mitigate any identified hazards. You’ll also assist in designing reporting incentives and showcasing safety wins
  • You understand and will remain current on occupational safety regulations and requirements
  • You will ensure PPE and first aid supplies are stocked, maintained, and appropriate to work conducted on-site and at deployed sites. You’ll also support emergency preparedness, accident reporting and investigation and worker’s comp claims
  • You will analyze operations, purchasing, and disposal practices for opportunities to divert wastes from landfill and avoid waste generation altogether, making lasting improvements to maximize environmental benefits

Technical Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Several years of experience within safety management with a focus on field operations in industries such as construction, oil and gas, mining, or utilities
  • This role requires the ability to actively engage in field operations, which may involve:
  • Working alongside field personnel in various environments, including exposure to machinery, heavy equipment, and construction sites
  • Operating in diverse weather conditions including extreme temperatures, precipitation, and other environmental factors
  • Assessing and mitigating hazards associated with field activities, including those related to machinery operation, chemical handling, and working at heights
  • Deep knowledge of and experience managing compliance with 29 CFR Part 1910
  • Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to manage competing priorities, and comfort with multi-tasking

Bonus but not required:

  • Certification as an ASP, CSP or CIH, or a demonstrated combination of experience and education to qualify for the exam
  • Experience in a safety role in the manufacturing or chemical sector
