ROTC INSTR-CERTIFIED

POSITION GOAL

To provide the highest quality of JROTC to students of Broward County. Must be innovative in support of student achievement.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

The Coordinator, JROTC & Military Programs shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.

  • Conduct personnel recruiting as required; screen and recommend applicant for hire.
  • Process and brief newly employed JROTC instructors.
  • Provide JROTC program administrative services such as publication management and records administration.
  • Conduct periodic training, and supply inspections of the various schools to ensure programs are being administered in accordance with law, regulation, and School Board policy.
  • Assist all schools in conducting a public affairs program in respective school boundary areas and communities.
  • Prepare and/or review reports required by Armed Services and/or School Board.
  • Develop and organizes curricula in accordance with Armed Services' directives to include preparation and distribution of instructional texts, materials, equipment, and schedules when appropriate.
  • Inspect and coordinate inspection of training and supply operation procedures, and security to ensure compliance with Armed Services' directives and School Board policy.
  • Provide assistance in coordinating extracurricular activities of JROTC Cadets to include parades and ceremonies, marksmanship competition, competitive drill, and ceremonial participation of color guards, drill teams and honor guards.
  • Help promote, schedule, and supervise competition of drill teams, rifle teams, drill units and individual participation.
  • Provide assistance to the principal in preparing annual evaluation reports as required on Senior Service Instructors.
  • Host and conduct Broward County Invitational Drill Meet, Raider Challenge Meet, and Marksmanship Meet for respective high school competitive teams.
  • Direct development of appropriate material for incorporation in JROTC Cadet newspapers.
  • Conduct Broward County Invitational Drill Meet for respective high school drill teams.
  • Assist in monitoring and submitting vouchers for payment of official participation by instructional personnel in appropriate activities to include extracurricular activities, e.g., conferences, summer camps, etc.
  • Prepare budget requirements and operating cost summaries for submission to appropriate Military Service and School Board.
  • Develop End of Course Testing (EOC) procedures for JROC curriculum area.
  • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
  • Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Experience to include service as an instructor/faculty member of a Military Service School and/or assignments in a college level ROTC program, a high school JROTC program or headquarters that supervised ROTC or JROTC programs.

  • Current USA Army Cadet Command Instructor Certification required. Coordinator, JROTC & Military Programs (cont.) SBBC: E-118 2
  • Army commissioned officer in the retired rank of Lieutenant Colonel or above.
  • Knowledge of military office and administrative procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, supervise and coordinate a staff of both instructional and administrative personnel.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • An earned bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of (8) eight years, within the last ten (10) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Minimum of three (3) years within the last five (5) years as a JROTC Instructor or administrator.
  • OR
  • An earned master's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of six (6) years, within the last ten (10) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Minimum of three (3) years within the last five (5) years as a JROTC Instructor or administrator.
  • Retired Colonel (pay grade 06).
  • Florida Teacher Certification.
  • Bilingual Skills

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
