General Purpose of Job:

Coordination of the operation of the assigned components of the Valley Clinics including Quick Care. Position includes planning, implementing, monitoring, and improving the quality of services in collaboration with the Valley Clinical Director; overseeing the day-today patient care operations; and maintaining fiscal accountability.

A registered professional nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designed time frame and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, nursing process, the environment and other health care team members. Operates within the Driscoll Children's Hospital mission, vision, and values.

Education:

  • Coordinate the development and education of new technologies as assigned as they relate to nursing.
  • Participates in teaching others/self development.
  • Coaches staff in how to improve performance through educational opportunities.
  • Develops goals annually to address the specific department educational needs of staff.
  • Pursue educational and leadership opportunities to enhance professional growth and clinical expertise.
  • Establishes professional goals annually in collaboration with Director.
  • Periodically review own goals and revises according to changing needs.

  • Pursues continuing education opportunities as appropriate.
  • Remain current in clinical and educational areas.

  • Participate in meetings with the Director, Medical Director, and staff of unit.
  • Support opportunities for expansion of services.
  • Participates and fulfills her/his role in quality improvement standards/problem solving/decision making.
  • Integrate and promote department/service, professional practice, and hospital goals into practice.
  • Assumes a leadership role and acts as a “change agent” role model.
  • Remain current in health care policies and practices.


Unit Oversight

  • Oversight of equipment and supplies.
  • Completes clinic work as assigned.
  • Documents following unit guidelines.
  • Adheres to generic structure with regard to legal issues and patient rights.
  • Adheres to all unit safety policies.
  • Responds and appropriately documents unit/patient emergency situations.
  • Maintains working knowledge of unit structure.
  • Maintains a sense of professionalism.
  • Responsible for development of monthly Quick Care and Clinic staff scheduling.
  • Serves as a consultant to patient care provider staff, faculty in handling specific care needs.
  • Direct observation of patient care, employee and physician relations in Quick Care as scheduled by Director. Schedule will be adjusted on days for time scheduled in Quick Care.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • Strong knowledge of and effective in administering hospital policies and procedures.

  • Supervises the following job classes:
    • RN’s
    • LVN’s
    • MA’s/CMA/ PCT (Specific to behavioral / customer service expectations. Communicates with physician regarding clinical skills.)
    • MOS

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education and/or Experience:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Successful completion of DCH IV therapy Certification Course. Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation techniques. Successful completion of DCH Orientation Course, Code Management, HIS/LIS courses, medication orientation course. Experience: Prefer pediatric experience but not required. Bilingual a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations.

  • Current Texas RN license.
  • PALS within one year of hire date (will attend PALS as per availability.)
