Job Description

Wise was founded in 2011 with a clear mission — money without borders — instant, convenient, transparent, and eventually free. We’ve built a market-leading technology product that’s been used by over 10 million people to move money around the world without the rip-off fees charged by the banks. We’re disrupting the world of currency and international money transfer. We are growing rapidly around the world and need to make sure that we have the best setup to support that growth in every region. You will help to shape the future of Wise across the Group.

We're looking for a Risk Manager to join our North America Risk Team. In this second line of defense role, you'll give support to Wisers in rolling out and embedding core elements of the risk management framework, with a focus on operational risk. We need to make sure we're identifying the right risks and growing in control, but we want to do so whilst continuing with our agile "test and learn" approach to launching products.

You will build and support the implementation and day-to-day management of the operational risk framework, provide guidance on events, support risk assessments, help assess the impact of control gaps, and use data analytics to help build the right risk reporting dashboards.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting our risk leadership team on key projects that have an impact across the business regionally and globally.
  • Supporting the implementation and operation of our operational risk management framework, including embedding of the risk and control self assessment process, risk incident post mortems and issues management, including impact assessment to help with remediation prioritisation, risk assessment of new product and growth initiatives governance, and more.
  • Partnering with ‘first line’ teams across the business to support the design and launch of new products and features by ensuring that key risks are identified and mitigated prior to launch.
  • Managing and following up on operational risk events and issues that occur.
  • Support first line teams in documenting, solutioning, and impact assessment and prioritisation of control gaps.
  • Ongoing oversight of issue remediation activities using our risk management tool (Audit Board) to ensure appropriate risk focused prioritisation, and help validate closure of remediated issues.
  • Conduct in-depth reviews, risk assessments and control mapping across our most material risks.
  • Create dashboards using data analytics tools (Looker and Superset) to report on losses and key risk indicators in order to help set risk tolerance thresholds and identify actionable insights.
  • Coordinate the quarterly residual risk assessment process across the risk taxonomy, including loss and incident reporting, to inform our regional risk profile for reporting to local and global risk committees, and to our local board.
  • Promoting and helping embed a strong risk culture, making risk meaningful and relevant to everyone at Wise.

About You

  • You have worked in the financial services / banking / fintech sector. You have a keen interest and proven experience in payment services, and operational controls and reporting.
  • You have a working knowledge of the US payment rails ACH, Fed Wire, RTP, Fed Now.
  • You are comfortable with data analysis and data-driven problem solving and solutionising. Looker and Superset experience is a definite plus.
  • You have experience across enterprise risk management, inherent and residual risk assessment, risk reporting.
  • You have experience across the operational risk spectrum including payment operations, ACH payment rails, security, third party, conduct, fraud.
  • You have experience supporting risk assessments and/or operational risk event capture and analysis and finding new and innovative ways to do things.
  • You have project management experience with the ability to develop project plans, establish clear objectives, and drive execution to achieve desired outcomes.
  • You have strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills to navigate complex situations and make data-driven decisions.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communications skills, and are proficient at drafting concise executive style narratives for risk committees and board reporting.
  • You’re resilient and comfortable working independently in a fast paced environment where the day to day job differs.
  • You are hands-on, a strong influencer, stakeholder manager, great at execution, and focussed on the detail.
