Retail District Manager

An ideal candidate would have a minimum of 2 plus years successful multi-unit retail management experience with full P&L responsibility or four plus years of “Big Box” retail store management experience. Knowledge of the Thrift Industry is a plus. This is a full-time, salaried position eligible for benefits after 60 days.

Job Summary

Provide direction, supervision, and leadership for all operations of the assigned district’s retail stores, including retail managers, hiring, coaching, counseling, discipline, and evaluations. Assist with training and developing retail management and operations staff to meet or exceed established performance levels. Ensures store operational standards are met in customer service, safety, merchandise presentation, production, housekeeping, cash handling, banking, and business reporting.

Maximizes floor layouts to achieve sales per square foot goals and carries out supervisory responsibilities following Goodwill Industries of Tulsa, Inc. (GWIT) policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, developing, and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Essential Job Functions

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of retail performance and operations of assigned stores and ensuring brand, community, and people operating standards are executed across assigned stores.

Works cross-functionally with all departments to ensure store needs are being met and stores have what they need to execute operational plans.

Ensure sound safety and work practices are followed and that all employees work to specified safety rules and regulations.

Visits stores and works closely with management teams to continuously search and find opportunities for performance improvement.

Participates in strategic planning, providing field intelligence to complete a data-based decision-making process.

Participates in developing annual financial, strategic, and operational plans for the team, managing execution, measuring, and delivering results.

Develops and implement processes and standard operating procedures that enhance organizational effectiveness and agility.

Builds, inspires, and leads a team of Store Managers in achieving daily operational excellence

Assists designated Store Managers in preparing introductory and annual performance reviews of retail employees. This position is responsible for tracking the timely completion and submission of performance evaluations of employees in assigned stores.

Conducts interviews with all candidates for open management positions in assigned stores. Recruits potential retail applicants from the community.

Participates in training of all new Store Managers in assigned stores. Monitors the progress of training for all Assistant Managers and Customer Service Managers. Verifies that all employees beginning a new job assignment are trained according to GWIT’s onboarding procedures. Reviews and tracks all onboarding documentation required for assigned stores.

Monitors weekly store team schedules for balance and adherence to allowed staffing levels and requires schedule revisions as needed.

Verifies that designated members of store management teams have been trained and are proficient in using the ADP payroll system. Accesses the ADP payroll system to ensure the accuracy of weekly payroll entries. Identifies errors that require corrections by store management, as necessary. Reports any errors or inconsistencies in recording payroll hours to the Vice President of Retail Sales. Assists with any resulting investigation of payroll records.

Meets store managers in assigned locations to review any deficiencies identified during internal store audits by accounting and asset protection staff. Provides additional training if needed.

Responds to designated phone and text requests for guidance on store operations and procedures, including after-hours calls and texts that require an immediate response.

Assists Managers in developing their store team's merchandising, sales, and customer service skills. Assists store teams with merchandising or floor projects as needed, including re-arrangement of store layouts and remodel projects. Assists with set up of new store locations.

Performs monthly retail store audits, when assigned by the Vice President of Retail Sales, to evaluate a wide range of standards, including but not limited to store appearance, effective merchandising, customer service, and adherence to retail, safety, and loss prevention policies and procedures.

Monitors, at each store visit, the condition of store facilities, grounds, fixtures, and equipment and assures that all damage and needs for maintenance, repair, or replacement are reported by store management on time.

Participates in Store Manager meetings. Provides training classes and on-site merchandising and customer service training in assigned stores periodically throughout the year. Attends at least two store team meetings in each assigned store annually.

Assists the Vice President of Retail Sales in planning and implementing sales goals and developing annual objectives and action plans.

Analyzes sales information to maximize sales per square foot—reviews the Store Performance Analysis, overtime, and expense reports, with each assigned Manager every month.

Reviews merchandise concerns submitted by Store Managers each week and provides the Vice President of Retail Sales with recommended adjustments to weekly store orders.

Assists the Vice President of Retail Sales in preparation of the annual retail budget.

Attends all In-Service training sessions. Attends quarterly Executive leadership team meetings and participates in the strategic planning process.

Supports the Mission of Goodwill and assures that the Mission is supported and promoted by store teams. Encourages and promotes the growth of GWIT’s Round-Up=Jobs program with each assigned store team.

Follows, enforces, and provides training to ensure that all safety rules and regulations are followed. Completes and submits any necessary forms and reports immediately, but no longer than within 24 hours when an incident occurs. Reviews and tracks all safety documentation for monthly store team safety meetings and scheduled safety drills.

Assures compliance with all loss prevention and asset protection policies and procedures by all team members in assigned stores.

Qualifications

Must be 21 years of age.

Bachelor's Degree or better in Business Administration or a related field.

Must have two plus years’ prior successful multi-unit retail management experience with full P&L responsibility or four plus years of “Big Box” retail store management experience.

Experience in positions of progressive responsibility in operational management, including strategic planning, performance management, change leadership, and budget development.

Experience establishing and maintaining a safe, clean work environment in a retail setting.

Experience building and developing Store Managers and store teams.

Experienced in Microsoft Office, POS (Point of Sale) programs, and BI (Business Intelligence) tools.

Must have a valid Oklahoma resident driver’s license with a safe driving record and an insured vehicle for store-related travel when the retail vehicle is unavailable.

Must maintain appropriate requirements for legal vehicle operation, including current automobile insurance and license plates.

Must be eligible for a positive outcome on a required criminal conviction background check.

Must maintain Goodwill’s Drug-Free Workplace.

Introductory Period

Training for this position is over a period of up to and including six months.
