Residential Home Manager

Basic Function: The mission of our Residential Services Department is to provide housing and living services to the disadvantaged and developmentally disabled. Our Residential Homes or Intermediate Care Facilities can house up to 15 individuals and CILA's or Community Integrated Living Facilities can house between 6-8 residents. Both options offer safe, small group environments where residents can learn the necessary life skills such as money management and personal care under the guidance of trained 24-hour staff. Included in these programs are pre-vocational and vocational and employment training that further strengthen their life skills and assist in enabling to live as independently as possible.

We currently have an opportunity available for a Residential Manager with our Residential Services Department under the division of Employment Community Support Services. This position is responsible for the safety, welfare, training and overall operations of persons supported residing in the Residential program. This position will maintain close and positive relationships with referral/sponsoring agencies and regulatory bodies.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The list of essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein is such duties are a logical assignment to the position. The Home Manager is ON-Call 24/7 for all major emergencies /crises and is expected to work on site in home(s) and/or in the community with residents and staff unless attending administrative related meetings /activities as assigned or on approved time off. The Home Manager work collaboratively with peers, scheduling and administration to ensure coverage is coordinated across their respective homes.

Managerial & Administrative: The Home Manager provides administrative oversight of all staff issues including, but not limited to hiring, supervising, mentoring, disciplining and discharging staff.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of progressive discipline procedures and issues disciplinary action in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Orients and trains new hires in the delivery of services per agency policy and completes the OJT Training Checklist for each new hire.
  • Completes all performance appraisals for staff assigned in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that staff remains in compliance with minimum job qualifications, including training and driving requirements.
  • Monitors and reviews the work of the direct care staff (DSPs), providing training and guidance as needed.
  • Manages the payroll for all assigned employees assuring that hours are accurately recorded, staff time is allocated appropriately, and overtime is monitored in accordance with agency policies.
  • Provides regular supervision, on-the-job training/coaching, and feedback to staff during and off shift as needed:
  • Assists with scheduling and transportation for medical/dental appointments. Ensure procedures to promote optimum health care, and behavior supports are followed.
  • At a minimum, hold staff meeting once per month to discuss issues pertaining to the home and persons served.
  • Monitors staff completion of all shift documentation.
  • Proper documentation of all medical visits in Envolv.
  • Coordinates staff-related needs/issues with Human Resources, including but not limited to staff reassignment, transfer, leave of absence, and/or termination, and progressive discipline.
  • Maintains positive and professional relationship(s) with DSPs working in his/her home and develops a "team" approach
  • Successfully complete ADA S McKinley required training and retraining, and any additional training as required by ADA S McKinley by the policies and practices or as assigned his or her immediate supervisor. Actively participates in any professional development opportunities as appropriate.
  • Maintains annual American Heart Association Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Attends and actively participates in department meetings and other meetings required by supervisor.
  • Keeps abreast of applicable laws, rules/regulations, and policies and procedures promulgated through code agencies responsible for surveillance and regulatory oversight of ADA S. McKinley's residential services, including IDPH, DHS, and any other entity to which the adult residential programs maintain accountability.
  • Completes all other professional duties as assigned by the supervisor

Mental/Physical Demands: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as instructional materials, operating instructions, books, catalogues, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed in a residential or classroom environment.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Education: This position requires associate’s degree (A.A.); or a combination of comparable education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the functions of the position proficiently.

Experience: Minimum of two years of supervisory experience and cumulative experience with increasing responsibility within a human services or social services working with individuals with development disabilities.

Additional Qualifications

The incumbent must be able to effectively communicate orally and in written with internal/external vendors/clients, staff and management, and maintain professional relationships.

This position requires the incumbent to be on-call after normal business hours to address any emergencies and/or concerns.

This position must possess valid/current driver’s license and annual clearance of the Agency background screening process.
