Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Residential Life, a hall director performs a variety of support for individual students as well as for the Office of Residential Life as a whole. The hall director will provide this support through supervising residence hall(s) and resident assistants, serving on an on-call duty rotation, participating on various committees, and executing collateral projects. They will also serve as a success advisor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervise and manage 1-2 residence halls and apartment building
  • Daily supervision of 7-14 student Resident Assistants (RAs)
  • Weekly and biweekly appointments including: 1-hour hall staff meeting, 1:1 meetings with each of the RAs on staff, Residential Life Staff Meeting, 1:1 meetings with the Director of Residential Life, and Student Life meetings
  • Manage programming/hall budget
  • Lead 2-4 campus wide events hosted by Residential Life
  • Read and follow up with Starfish referrals
  • Read and follow up with RA Programming and Intentional Conversations
  • Participate in an on-call duty rotation
  • Respond to emergencies while on call and in general, including evenings, weekends, and (occasional) holidays.
  • Attend regular meetings with custodial, maintenance, conduct, and safety offices
  • Meet with students to talk about roommate issues, complaints or concerns in the building, and other questions that may arise.
  • Complete rounds in the building to touch base with residents and check condition of building
  • Assist with the coordination of RA Training, RA Selection, Hall Opening, Hall Closing
  • Assist with housing renewal and placements as requested
  • Promote, participate, and represent the Office of Residential Life and Student Life at various events
  • Complete daily office hours
  • Supervise desk workers in residence halls
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Duties Include

  • Serve as primary Success Advisor and provide holistic support (individual and group) to new, transfer, and continuing students from a variety of backgrounds to identify and address challenges/needs
  • Participate in the restorative justice conduct process as a hearing officer
  • Participate on University committees as requested

Qualifications

  • A commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff
  • Master’s degree preferred, Bachelors’ degree required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in residential life or student leadership positions preferred.
  • Must be self-directed, well organized and committed to the mission of Residential Life and Manchester University.

Work schedule: This is a 12-month, full-time, live-in position. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends. Frequent workday schedule changes, evenings, weekends and travel will be required to fulfill position requirements.
