Position Description:
We are seeking a Part-Time Laboratory Technician to join our research team in the department of Biology. This role involves approximately 20 hours of work per week, spread over 4-5 days. The research technician will conduct independent experiments on a grant-funded project aimed at identifying anti-staphylococcal compounds produced by other microbial pathogens. Responsibilities include conducting experiments, analyzing data, interpreting results, and collaborating with lab members and the Principal Investigator (PI). This position is initially available for one year, with the potential for extension based on grant funding and performance. This is a classified position at $20.92/hour.
As a Research Technician I, you will be expected to spend 20 hours per week in the lab performing the following tasks:

As a Research Technician I, you will be expected to spend 20 hours per week in the lab performing the following tasks:
- Conducting independent research on microbial interactions between cystic fibrosis pathogens
- Maintaining a detailed and complete ab notebook
- Generating and analyzing data for manuscripts and grant applications
- Making media for laboratory experiments
- Assisting in lab maintenance tasks, including inventory management and dishwashing
- Reliably work in the lab to produce results each week
- Communicating effectively both orally and in writing with lab members and the PI
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field OR current enrollment in a Biology Bachelor's program.
- Experience with BSL-2 pathogens
- Scientific writing
- Experience in microbiological laboratory techniques including micropipetting, aseptic technique, microbial culturing, making media, and sterilization techniques. Other, more specialized training on microbial techniques will be provided in the lab.
- Basic understanding of biology and biological processes through college courses with grades of A/B in basic biology and genetics
- Critical Thinking – ability to think through issues and identify appropriate options
- Teamwork – ability to work with others, serve others, help others, lead others, mentor others, take directions from others in the interest of moving process and programs forward to the desired outcome
- Organized - manages time effectively, keeps tasks appropriately prioritized
