Research Technician I

Occupational Summary

Provide support for laboratory staff engaged in the study of cellular reprogramming mechanisms. In more detail, the laboratory focuses on cardiac repair post heart attack via the reprogramming of scar cells into heart muscle cells. We are actively looking into the mechanisms underpinning such reprogramming and need assistance in the timely completion of these studies for future grant applications and publications. The Research Technician will support these studies by completing experiments under direction from other lab members as well as by ensuring buffers and materials are available.

Work Performed

Perform experiments as required for completing lab projects. These experiments will include

tissue culture as well as analysis of RNA and protein levels via qPCR, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence. The incumbent will be required to document procedures and compile the data for analysis. In addition, duties will include maintaining the laboratory’s stock of buffers, reagents and culture media.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires an Associate's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science related scientific field.

Experience

None required above education/training requirement OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. Experience in a research laboratory setting is preferred.

Skills

Technical skills in qPCR, immunoblotting, and immunostaining are preferred
