Responsibilities

A full-time research assistant position is available in the laboratory of Kyunghee Koh at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia to study the genetic and neural basis of complex behaviors including sleep, circadian rhythms, courtship, and memory as well as neurodegeneration using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. We use a broad range of techniques in molecular biology, optical imaging, genetics, biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and behavioral monitoring to investigate genetic and neural mechanisms regulating complex behaviors and neurodegeneration.

Essential Functions

  • Fly handling (behavioral monitoring and analysis, genetic crosses, and maintenance of fly stocks)
  • Fly brain imaging (dissection, immunohistochemistry, and confocal imaging)
  • Preparation of fly food and monitor tubes
  • Molecular biology
  • Cell culture and Westerns
  • Ordering reagents
  • Other lab procedures as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Two-year commitment

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

AND

Experience

Laboratory experience preferred.

Conditions of Employment
