Carpenter Co. has an opening for a Research Engineer at our Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia. This position is responsible for supporting internal groups and external customer requests by coordinating and overseeing day-to-day operations in the Reinhart Technical Center Physical Testing and both the Large and Small-Scale Flammability Testing Laboratories.

Your Additional Responsibilities As a Research Engineer Will Include
Support Carpenter Co research groups by becoming a technical resource on testing methodology for a wide range of Carpenter Co products
Monitor day to day operations in several key support laboratories and assist in hands on testing work when required (includes a large-scale flammability laboratory where mattress burning behavior is observed)
Manage and organize maintenance and calibration schedules for testing equipment
Continuously improve Material and Flammability laboratory performance by updating work instructions and training materials and also through research of new test practices
Skills / Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Material Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
At least 1 year of experience in a science / engineering-based field
Proficient with MS Office and statistical methods used for controlling and improving laboratory systems.
Self-motivation and a drive to exceed expectations
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities on a daily basis
Experience in an industrial laboratory setting preferred
Experience with acoustic test methods preferred
