Research Associate, U.S. Foreign Policy

Overview

CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program aims to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

As part of the Studies Program, the research associate will support the work of the Senior Vice President, Director of Studies, and Maurice R. Greenberg Chair. Qualified candidates will have related experience that required judgment, strong writing and editing ability, time management skills, and experience dealing with high-profile individuals.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting research on specific topics as requested for publications, speeches, podcasts, and other outlets
  • Assisting with fact-checking, proofreading, and editing of written materials, including articles, blog posts, memos, and correspondence
  • Coordinating events, including preparing invitations, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support
  • Assisting with social media outreach, including using social media applications such as X and Facebook
  • Providing administrative support, including rafting correspondence, posting blog posts, taking notes at meetings, and responding to requests for information
  • Acting as liaison between the director of Studies and other CFR departments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts in history, international relations, political science, or a related field, with sterling academic credentials and broad knowledge of current foreign policy issues
  • Solid grounding in the history of U.S. foreign policy preferred
  • Experience with social media outreach and using social media applications preferred
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team

Pay Range

$55,000 to $58,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
