JOB SUMMARY:

The Research Assistant for Rehabilitation Sciences will perform a variety of duties to help with the publication of work. These duties include participation in research design, data collection, data analysis, and manuscript preparation as well as ensuring compliance with IRB protocol and overall research objectives.

Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks

  • Conducts literature reviews.
  • Collects and analyzes data.
  • Prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations.
  • Prepares interview questions.
  • Recruits and collects data with subjects.
  • Maintains accurate records of participation, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary.
  • Provides ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor.
  • Requests or acquires equipment or supplies necessary for the project.
  • Manages and responds to project related emails.
  • Prepares, maintains, and updates website materials.
  • Supervises undergraduate students working on the research project (maintaining records on assignment completion, acting as liaison/mediator between the undergraduate students and the faculty researcher).
  • Attends project meetings.
  • Attends area seminars and other meetings as necessary.
  • Summarizes project results.
  • Prepares progress reports.
  • Prepares other articles, reports, and presentations.
  • Monitors the project budget.
  • Travels to field sites to collect and record data as appropriate to the specific objectives of the study.
  • As appropriate to the specified position, codes and verifies data in accordance with specified research protocol and coding procedures and enter data into a computer database and/or spreadsheet application for subsequent analysis.
  • Develops or assists in the development of participation schedules; contacts potential subjects to introduce and explain study objectives and protocol and to arrange interviews, either in person or via online, telephone or email.
  • Identifies and compiles lists of potential research subjects in accordance with study objectives and parameters, as appropriate to the individual position.
  • Conducts and records face-to-face and/or online interviews with subjects, in accordance with predetermined interview protocol, data collection procedures and documentation standards.
  • Reviews and edits data to ensure completeness and accuracy of information; follow up with subjects to resolve problems or clarify data collected.
  • May set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory and/or field research equipment, as specified by the requirements of the study.
  • May lead or guide the work of student employees.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Prepares findings for publication and assists in laboratory analysis and data management.
  • Writes and contributes to publications.
  • Develops research protocols.
  • Assists with preparation of all educational and training workshops and evaluation strategies.
  • Engages clinical and community partners in research.
  • Markets training and technical assistance resources to clinical partners and academic investigators.
  • Develops assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Compiles data for progress reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Competencies

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn new software skills as needed to meet research objectives.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field.
  • One (1) Year of Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research.
  • One (1) Year of Experience with specialized software or databases.
  • CITI IRB training completion (must complete within 3 weeks of hire).
  • A combination of education and experience may be accepted.
