Research Assistant

The Johns Hopkins University Center for AIDS Research Implementation Science (IS) Hub is looking for one (1) highly motivated Research Assistant (RA) to support in the enhancement the short- and long-term scientific rigor and relevance of IS studies and to increase collaboration to promote generalizable knowledge to end the HIV epidemic in the US. The position involves supporting data abstraction, cleaning, analyses and manuscript development contributing to the advancement of meta-science HIV initiatives and implementation science methodological development applied to the HIV field. Drs. Sheree Schwartz and Stefan Baral will serve as the faculty advisors for the RA; however, the position will have the opportunity to work with a larger bench of HIV and implementation science faculty.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • May include, but will not be limited to, the following,
  • Support data abstraction and data cleaning in Air table (data management software).
  • Support quality assurance practices to ensure consistent reporting and accurate identification of implementation outcomes in NIH-funded IS studies.
  • Identify and extract tools and measures used for IS outcomes reporting in NIH-funded IS studies.
  • Support data synthesis and analysis for manuscript development.
  • Collaborate in weekly meetings with research team.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations at scientific meetings; first author or co-author publications are a potential.
  • Participate in weekly MACC+ IS Hub meetings and technical meetings with partners and key stakeholders as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Strong interest in and demonstrated experience and knowledge of implementation research.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate students (masters or doctoral) are eligible to apply.
  • Experience in systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and/or meta-research.
  • Technical expertise and/or knowledge of HIV.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of the team, exhibit attention to detail, and have an ability to adapt and be responsive to change in an evolving research environment.
  • The research assistant may also potentially assist with other studies conducted by the MACC+ Implementation Science Hub that align with their interests

Starting Salary Range: $17.00 - $30.00 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
