Research And Development Manager

Our client is looking for a Research and Development Manager to lead technical development and product innovation at their food manufacturing plants. Oversee raw material specifications, and ensure product, process, and design standards are met at both internal and external production sites. Coordinate logistics efficiently, adhere to budgets, and meet product objectives.

Responsibilities

• Manage new product development, product modifications, and process improvement activities.
• Apply scientific expertise and customer insights to product design.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to achieve cost savings and efficiencies.
• Conduct consumer, sensory, and shelf-life testing.
• Ensure ingredient functionality, flavor, formulation, nutrition, and compliance with food labeling regulations.
• Build and maintain relationships with external science and technology providers, customers, and vendors.
• Stay updated on new and competitive technologies and assess their relevance to current and future products.
• Collaborate with Marketing to understand and meet consumer trends.
• Deliver technical presentations and product demonstrations to internal and external stakeholders, including board members and investors.
• Maintain knowledge of quality systems, food safety, and environmental management in food processing, as well as federal regulations and agencies (FDA, USDA, HAACP).
• Document final formulations and process parameters to ensure compliance with Nutrition, Regulatory, and Food Safety requirements.
• Develop finished product specifications.
• Coordinate and attend plant trials to validate formulas and process capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields with over 10 years of experience in the Food CPG R&D space.
• Strong understanding of the product development lifecycle from concept to commercialization.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, develop people, and create effective strategies and programs.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%.
