Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides collaborative and comprehensive clinical and academic training for the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons and orthopaedic scientists. The team's world-class faculty are highly trained in an array of orthopaedic subspecialties and are committed to the continuation of orthopaedic excellence.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Oversees in vivo studies in mice.
Ensures completion of research activities while working with numerous faculty, staff, and students.
Responsible for animal handling.
Oversees staff and students working on research projects.
Assists in collection of data, preparation of findings for grant and manuscript reports, and ordering of supplies.
Conducts research in musculoskeletal phenotype (bone, muscle, fat, etc) of genetically engineered mice utilizing various research techniques and procedures.
General Responsibilities
Performs moderately complex experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leader of lab.
Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
May provide guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
May assist with preparation of grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.
