Kuker-Ranken was founded in 1928 by W.J. Ranken, Otto J. Kuker, Jack T. Ranken and Harry G. Kimball as a manufacturer of the Kuker-Ranken hand levels for contractors and surveyors. Initially located in Renton, Washington, Kuker-Ranken, Inc. has been in a number of locations over the years. From Renton we moved to 4th & Columbia downtown Seattle, WA it was current location of McCormack’s Fish House, where we expanded into architectural and engineering supplies including blueprinting tools, eventually moving to 818 John St in Seattle.
The Survey Instrument Repair Technician is responsible for performing a variety of services on optical and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) equipment. This includes diagnostics, testing, repair, calibration, upgrading, and cleaning of survey and mapping instruments. This incumbent will report to the Service Department Manager and the General Manager. This role will require a mechanically skilled, detailed oriented employee should be able to perform and willing to learn the finer details of servicing Leica equipment and providing technical support as needed.
Execute repairs and calibrations on survey and mapping equipment.
Diagnose issues and troubleshoot technical problems.
Provide Customer support relating to repairs and service of Total Stations and lasers.
Communicate with service manager and coordinator regarding repairs and service department procedure.
Create and process service orders for incoming repairs.
Maintain accurate records of repairs and service history.
Support staff and sales staff in areas of Total Station and laser equipment.
Provide technical customer support in areas related to Total Stations and lasers.
Collaborate with team members and customers to ensure timely and efficient service.
Keep up to date with industry trends and technological advancement.
Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Strong mechanical aptitude combined with high manual dexterity.
An electronic instrument or equipment qualification, certificate from a trade organization or completion of an apprenticeship in the electronic area is preferred.
Understanding of tolerances and accuracy.
Understanding and following repair manual processes.
Ability to think critically and use prior knowledge to extrapolate solutions to troubleshoot issues.
Ability to communicate clearly with the service manager or coordinator.
Understanding of application of instrument.
Some lifting of items that weigh 50 pounds or more is required.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience with optical and GNSS equipment preferred.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Must have basic computer skills
The position is 5 days (40 hours) per week. Hours are flexible. Store hours are 7AM to 5PM.
Pay Scale
Entry level (where we train someone with tech skills to become a repair technician) $22-25/hr
Mid-Range (some experience but not specific to lasers $25 - $27/hr
Highly experienced **with Laser experience starts at $60K/yr
No evenings or weekends. Benefits available after 30 days of employment.
