Key’s From The Manager

Stored Procedures, Table-Valued Functions, and Dimensions

Requirements

Microsoft SQL experience (2016, 2019) -

Stored Procedures

  • Creation and maintenance of stored procedures.
  • Experience with creating stored procedures that move data across SQL servers into data warehouse database to create/maintain historical/audit tables.
    • Experience with working with large datasets (~10Mil+)
Performance Tuning

  • Finding long running queries and improving them in reasonable ways
    • Indexes (clustered/nonclustered)(row, columnstore)
    • Restructuring Queries
      • Investigating SQL plans to optimize large queries
DBA (lite)

  • Experience with things usually associated with a database administrator
    • Root cause analysis on errors
    • Identifying issues occurring within the SQL databases
    • Performance Configuration for Server/Databases
      • Awareness of Filegroups & tempdb resources
Data Normalization

  • Creation of fact/dimension (Type 2)

SQL Agent Job

  • Experience using SQL Server Agent to:
    • Create jobs and monitor jobs
Functions in SQL

  • Knowledge of Table Valued Functions, Scalar Valued Functions

Data Replication

  • Experience using Microsoft SQL features to replicate data across servers/databases or implementing custom solutions to achieve similar results.
    • Such as Change Data Capture, Change Tracking, or Replication
Data extraction/manipulation from JSON

  • Experience parsing JSON, but preferably within SQL.

Nice To Have

BI Tools

  • Experience preparing data for use inside a Business Intelligence (BI) tool, such as Qlik.
  • Experience using BI Tools, preferably Qlik.
  • Experience in SSRS.
  • Experience with Postgres, or specifically Greenplum.
  • Experience using and creating documentation in Confluence.
  • Experience setting up and using Git, preferably for SQL based code.
