The primary functions of the position are to schedule, greet, pre-register/receive and register patients in a courteous and professional manner, verify insurance benefits and check for authorization, pre-certification, physician order accuracy, and referral necessity. The position also obtains patients signatures for required forms and collects patient financial responsibility when required. The Regstrar is responsible for providing professional, quality customer service, timely resolution to customer problems, and coordination of services to all customers. The Registrar communicates revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, physician office staff and other hospital colleagues. The position rotates into various areas of the patient access department including the Emergency Room and may work a variety of shifts.
Essential Functions
Obtains patients signatures for required forms and collects patient financial responsibility when required.
Utilizes appropriate and professional verbal communication skills when conversing with patients and other internal and external customers on the telephone and in person to convey a high level of personal attention and promote customer satisfaction.
Maintains up-to-date and accurate knowledge of insurance and managed care plans. Reads insurance memos and bulletins, maintains files and utilizes online insurance tools to assist patients and ensure the correct handling of payer information.
Accurately records and verifies all patient information when interviewing patients/representatives to assure completeness of patient records.
Schedule Varied days Monday through Friday and every other weekend 700 am - 330 pm
Education and Experience
High School Diploma/GED Over 6 months to 1 year Patient Access/Admissions, Call Center and/or Customer Service Experience in a Hospital, Health Facility, or Medical Office Setting required
