Job Summary

Supervises the planning, promotion, staffing, implementation, and evaluation of a variety of recreation, sport, leisure-time and community events for an assigned facility.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation, or related field, plus three (3) years of experience with increasing responsibility, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or management capacity; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Education may not be substituted for the required supervisory, administrative or management experience.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required background investigation.

Possession of a valid Utah Driver's License at the time of hire.

Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position.

Will be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.

May be subject to post accident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies the need and feasibility for a wide variety of recreation, sports, and leisure-time programs.
  • Hires, trains, develops, supervises, and terminates full- and part-time employees.
  • Formulates and prepares annual program action plans.
  • Creates partnerships and coordinates with other organizations and agencies to utilize joint programming opportunities.
  • Reviews and evaluates assigned programs for effectiveness.
  • Establishes and implements recreation, leisure-time, and sports program standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership in managing, supervising, and coordinating the use of county and assigned non-county facilities and grounds.
  • Manages and reviews all cash handling, billing, and collections functions.
  • Prepares, monitors, and supervises assigned budget line-items.
  • Represents the Section in the community by attending community meetings.
  • Assigns work and evaluates employee performance and identifies training and professional development needs.

  • Management and operation of recreation facilities and equipment
  • Supervisory principles and practices
  • Budget preparation and justification, monitoring, forecasting, and methods of fiscal control

  • Supervise and train subordinate staff
  • Assist in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the division
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Organize and prioritize projects, tasks, and own work in an effective and timely manner
  • Maintain effective working relationships with division and county employees
  • Develop recreational programs adapted to the particular needs of the community
  • Use computers, phones, and other standard office equipment and software


Working Conditions And Physical Requirements

Requires occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds. Requires occasional field work; may work in all types

of weather.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION

Frequent nights, weekend, and holiday work required.
