Job Description

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Coordinator performs various tasks as

necessary to provide recreation services to the St. George Community. Specifically responsible for providing leadership and oversight of summer programs for youth ages 5-17and management duties assigned to Thunder Junction and Carousel. Serves as the lead staff in charge of setting the highest standard for safety and supervision of part time staff workers. Provides teaching and instruction for the following Safety Town, various Nature Camps, Attraction Park Management and Special Events. Adheres to and enforces a strong practice of risk management to ensure the safety of both students and staff.

  • Provides safety and supervision for students during programs and activities, generally taking place in andaround the Nature Center & Thunder Junction.
  • Provides coaching and instruction for the Safety Town, Curiosity Club, Nature Camp, and SpecialEvents.
  • Adheres to and enforces a strong practice of risk management to ensure the safety of both students andstaff.
  • Oversees the work of other part time employees and volunteers during assigned shifts or tasks.
  • Assists in staff training, assignments, recruiting and interviews.
  • Provides customer service in person and over the phone; answering questions and/or referring customers to appropriate staff members.
  • Responds to public inquiries providing accurate information regarding recreation programs and services.
  • Responsible for program supplies, organization, and inventory.
  • Aids in the promotion and advertising of programs and special events.
  • Distributes brochures, flyers, schedules, rosters, etc.
  • Organizes, cleans, prepares and maintains recreation facilities and equipment.
  • Works at other City programs and special events as needed.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing other related duties as needed.
  • Performs money-handling duties according to City and division policies and procedures.
  • Runs job related errands.
  • Follows all city policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions

Conditions and temperatures may vary depending on the assignment. Primarily working outdoors sometimes in extreme hot/cold temperatures. Requires the use of vision and/or hearing to identify and evaluate emergencies. Must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies. Requires moderately heavy physical activity exerting 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently. Mental demands of intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior.

Note: Must be available to work weekends, mornings, evenings, holidays, and other schedules to help prepare for recreation offerings. This is a full-time position with variable hours averaging 40 hour per week over twelve months.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or College degree preferred.

Experience

● Minimum of 2 years of personal experience participating/leading camps and recreation activities required.

● Minimum of 1 year professional experience coordinating, programming and leading outdoor recreation activities required.

● Minimum of 1 year Personal/Professional experience working with youth is required.

— Customer Service Experience Required.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification required. (Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.)
  • Food Handlers Permit Certification required. (Must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.)
