Job Summary

The Recreation and Athletics Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of athletics division, operations at The Rec at the Lakefront®, and Beach Ambassador Program. This position oversees membership services, daily operations of the front desk, developing and implementing athletic services, oversees execution of athletic tournaments, and coordinates with the Little Elm Area Youth Sports Association. Provides customer service, supervises front desk, athletics, and kid zone staff, as well as contracts vendors and instructors, and maintains the internal/external area of The Rec at the Lakefront®.

Education/Training/Experience

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure studies, physical education, public administration, business administration, or related field preferred. Two years of recreation program administration experience including some administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  • Must possess current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within three months from date of employment.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.

Essential Job Functions

  • Autonomy over Recreation, Athletics, and Beach Ambassador programs, including creating, planning, developing, evaluating and implementing recreation and sports programs, tournaments, and services.
  • Manages membership services (coordination, sales, and retention programs).
  • Supervises the operations of the Beach Ambassador program and related staff.
  • Coordinates and acts as liaison with Little Elm Area Youth Sports Association, and Little Elm ISD.
  • Manages, schedules, and coordinates athletic league play.
  • Responsible for managing and driving revenue for sports fields and court reservations.
  • Responsible for identifying and collecting revenue and preparing detailed records relating to revenue collection in conjunction with Activenet and Team Sideline.
  • Responsible for the Athletics budget and portions of the Recreation budget.
  • Uses discretion and independent judgment regarding procurement/purchasing decisions, in compliance with Town policies.
  • Oversees implementation and acts as power user for ActiveNet and Team Sideline.
  • Handles membership payment processing and payment rejections.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, schedules, and terminates part-time staff per policy manual.
  • Directly supervises front desk, athletics day to day operations.
  • Recruits, trains, oversees, coordinates, schedules and evaluates assigned seasonal staff, contracted instructors and volunteers.
  • Remains actively involved with professional organizations related to recreation athletics. (USSSA, TAAF, NRPA, etc.)
  • Authority and responsibility to respond to and resolve customer complaints, questions and suggestions related to the Recreation Division programs, activities, services, and special events.
  • Responsible for evaluating and implementing policies and procedures that enhance the efficiency and productivity of the Recreation Center and its programs.
  • Coordinates and implementing financial management functions within the division.
  • Monitors and schedules activities at the Recreation Center and enforces safety policies.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with vendors, area businesses, and other agencies.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, customers of the Recreation Center.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, organize and supervise the activities and programs related to the Recreation Division.
  • Extensive knowledge of recreational programming and skills in promoting recreational facilities.
  • Possession of excellent interpersonal skills with customers from various backgrounds, staff and city administration.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to personnel and purchasing policies as well as accounting principles.
  • Ability to schedule and coordinate the work of others.
  • Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Ability to comprehend complex policies, procedures, regulations, and organizational structures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and be able to push and pull up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Primarily office environment with some work being done outside, depending on program.
