Rail Terminal Operator

Company: Join an industry-leading team at Pacific Rail Services, a company known for its stability and commitment to excellence. We're hiring for Entry-Level Rail Yard Operators who will receive comprehensive on-the-job training. No CDL is required, and no prior hostler driving experience is necessary. This is a full-time permanent position in a recession proof industry. You will be employed directly through Pacific Rail Services and will not be a railroad employee.

Compensation

  • $19.71/hr (overtime rate is $29.57/hr)
  • Raise after 6 months to $20.23 and at 1 year, the rate is $21.58/hr
  • Potential to earn $55,000 - $70,000 annually in hourly pay with overtime.

Shifts

  • Shifts are ElGHT hours with a mandatory four-hour holdover when necessary.
  • We're currently hiring for the below shift start times:
  • 6pm shift & our 10pm shift.

What You'll Do

  • This role combines the responsibilities of a Hostler Driver and Ground Person. You will learn to operate a jockey truck, maneuvering 53ft trailers, containers, and chassis around the rail yard.
  • Engage in various ground duties, including climbing on and off railcars, securing tracks, and handling inner box connectors (IBC's).
  • Assist crane operators with equipment loading and unloading using hand signals.
  • Play a key role in stacking and unstacking chassis, as well as loading and unloading chassis racks.
  • Fulfill other assigned duties in a dynamic and team-oriented work environment.

Qualifications

  • No prior railroad experience is required. (Prior experience working outdoors, driving or doing physical labor is preferred)
  • Minimum age of 18 with a valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a 7-year background check (Any felonies within the last 7 years, jailtime or probation in the last 5 years or a history of criminal offenses could disqualify applicants)
  • Ability to pass a drug test and a Physical Capabilities Test.
  • No GED or diploma required.
  • Strong communication skills are essential.
  • Applicants must currently live within a 45-minute commute of Harrisburg, PA; relocation candidates will not be considered.
