Operations, administration, and maintenance of large, multi-site, digital wireless communications systems including conventional and trunked land mobile radio systems.
Note: Position is On-Site in Maplewood, NJ
Principal Accountabilities
Conduct proactive (preventive) and reactive maintenance on complex digital land-mobile radio, microwave, and fiber optic communications systems.
Troubleshoot and repair electronic communications systems.
Mentor and provide on the job training to junior members of technical team
Schedule job assignments for junior staff members
Analyze system performance data to include both RF performance and traffic loading statistics to plan and implement improvements to infrastructure and operating parameters to address capacity, coverage, and interference
Collect and analyze test instrument data and translate into actionable measures to repair, improve, optimize, or calibrate RF, microwave, or fiber communications systems
Respond to trouble tickets initiated from both end-users and vendors in a timely fashion and meet stringent SLA requirements
Serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to other staff members
Participate in on-call schedule rotations
Seek out new technology and processes to support existing and emerging corporate radio communications and wireless requirements
Coordinates facility visits/access, as necessary, with outside vendors/agencies.
Participate in a lead capacity with the implementation of on-going communications systems projects.
Provide weekly status reports in detail to include active projects, pending maintenance and efforts to achieve 99.999% availability on all equipment
Position Requirements
14.10+ years experience in operations and maintenance of large, multi-site, digital wireless communications systems including conventional and trunked land mobile radio systems, MPLS microwave networks.
Demonstrated project management experience.
Excellent presentation and writing skills
Fluent in Microsoft Office 365 including Microsoft TEAMS
Demonstrate practical understanding of trunking, microwave and antenna RF theory.
Advanced understanding of land-mobile radio systems engineering principles and practices.
Demonstrate practical knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations. This includes but is not limited to Parts 22 and 90.
Demonstrate practical experience and responsibility for operating systems using one or more of the following digital LMR air interface technologies: P25 TDMA, TETRA, iDEN, DMR, NXDN, and at least one of the following commercial air interface technologies: 3G, 4G/LTE, IS-95, IS-136, CDMA, UMTS, HSDPA
Demonstrated operational knowledge and experience with various network transport technologies including: MPLS, T1, OC, SONET, DS1, DS3, ATM, EPL.
Have proficient knowledge of fundamental networking and protocols to include L2TP, TCP-IP, UDP, Multicast, Unicast, SNMP, SMTP, NTP, OSI layer, etc.
Completion of a technical training or degree program in electronics with a concentration in wireless systems (field experience will be considered in lieu of degree or certificate)
Demonstrated practical experience with Computer-Aided Dispatch systems.
FCC General Radio Telephone Operator License is preferred but not required
