R&D Group Leader
The R&D Group Leader manages the development of new and improved polymers and technologies. She/he coordinates and oversees the work of all technical personnel in R&D and Quality Control. The R&D Group Leader originates and assigns projects and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completion of those assignments. The R&D Group Leader cultivates a cooperative working environment and collaborative relationships with other departments.

- Leads, mentors, and develops our team of scientists and technicians
- Drives innovation – both long/short term, including product improvement and new product development
- Lead activities focused on problem solving, product improvement, performance testing, and verification / improvement of application robustness
- Project Management – Leads the technical efforts of our Industrial Chemist(s), establishing goals for project completion and delegation of projects
- Oversees Quality Department – supports Quality and Manufacturing to address quality concerns or processing issues
- Interfaces with production to achieve a smooth transition from Lab Batches to the Pilot plant
- Collaborates with Purchasing Department as it relates to raw materials both new and current
- Develops relationships with Sales and prospective customers and existing customers to develop and/or maintain business
- Oversees lab processes and practices to streamline and improve them as appropriate
- Facilitates cross-functional relationships with manufacturing, application, marketing, and sales to identify potential product improvements or product line gaps
- Prepares timely reports and provides updates on project status, using good data collection and analytical skills
- Establishes clear timelines through project plans and resource management
- Leads the development of quantitative product performance and application testing methodologies
- Manages technical relationship with vendors
- Adheres to and encourages all safety guidelines

Technical Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field
- 5+ years’ experience in water-based polymer development
- Technical knowledge – Emulsion Polymerization and/or Polyurethane dispersions
- Master’s Degree or higher in a science-related area
- Supervisory/mentoring experience
- Travel Requirements 10%
