R&D Food Technologists

As one of our amazing R&D Food Technologists, you will be responsible for the formulation and new product development activities, focusing on ProCaps’ innovative functional food & beverage products. Located in Henderson, Nevada, near the exciting and diverse community of Las Vegas, ProCaps Laboratories is a large and rapidly growing manufacturer with approximately 350 employees that markets several hundred dietary supplement SKUs, along with an expanding line of functional foods (bars, packets, bottles, etc.)

What You Bring (minimum Job Qualifications And Requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of formulation experience in the food & beverage industry for a Food Technologist,
  • Proficiency in the manufacturing of protein bars is required. Furthermore, a strong understanding of functional foods, ready-mix drinks, snack bars, protein bars, chocolate product development, pet treats, soft chews, extruding, and molding is highly preferred
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills with the ability to gather and summarize data, recommend solutions to production issues, and prioritize work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and professionally with individuals throughout the company.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, juggle, organize, and prioritize tasks, and seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
  • Good understanding of the impact of food and nutrients on health.
  • Working knowledge of computers and proficiency in MS Office, with an aptitude to learn new programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to think beyond the R&D function to consider the organization and its purpose holistically.


WHAT YOU’LL DO (OTHER ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

Formulation And New Product Development

  • Lead and assist in identifying, assessing, and validating formulations from benchtop through commercialization.
  • Execute experimental trials from the lab, pilot, and production scale, requiring collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Develop food applications utilizing relevant technologies through lab-scale and pilot-scale trials.
  • Create and maintain technical documents, specifications, and production process instructions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and forms and establish required product specifications.


Quality And Continuous Improvement

  • Responsible for quality and continuous improvement within the job scope.
  • Maintained testing documentation files and verified formulas documented in the manufacturing software system with Formulation Sheets.
  • Coordinate signing off on all new/changed formulas and review test results with PD Management.
  • Ensure the proper manufacturing of developed or modified products during the first production runs.


Testing And Evaluation

  • Perform tests for new products and liaise with Planning, Production, and QC.
  • Review results of raw material evaluations and assist QC in method development for material analysis.
  • Provide recommendations on the feasibility of using raw materials and propose necessary changes.
  • Evaluate production processes using statistical process-control methods.


Production And Blending

  • Create manufacturing recipes for all products and review/sign all batch tickets.
  • Assist Production to resolve raw material issues and investigate/track production issues involving raw materials.
  • Generate and propose formulas for new products, existing products, and "FIX" formulas to deplete excess inventories.


Corporate Meeting Involvement

  • Participate in corporate meetings and contribute to various projects as assigned by the Director, CEO, and PD Manager.


Compliance And Safety

  • Ensure food safety consistent with the FDA code and ensure Prop 65 compliance.
  • Assign cleaning codes and coordinate with Production and QC to validate cleaning requirements.


Ad Hoc Projects

  • Assist the Director on various projects as assigned and perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.
