Company Insight:

A well-established international commodities hedge fund is seeking an experienced Trader, to join their Nat Gas trading desk. You will be responsible for maintaining a proactive outlook on commodity markets, utilizing data, tools, and models, to inform decision-making and uncover fresh trading opportunities. Aiming to continually enhance trading revenue, you will drive quantitative and qualitative research within the sector.


This is a role with significant potential for development. You will be a key member of the team, assisting in the production and delivery of an integrated and comprehensive analysis offering. While the primary emphasis will be on short-term traded markets, you will also contribute significantly to various commercial services offered by the Nat Gas team and will have the opportunity to participate in cultivating significant new areas of growth.


Your role:

  • Formulate and convey your perspective on the NG market by managing a dynamic, data-informed global supply and demand equilibrium, drawing from various internal and external data sources.
  • Construct, test, and refine data-centric models to continuously enhance their accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Clearly communicate in-depth market analysis to teams both locally and globally.
  • Collaborate closely with Traders and fellow Analysts across offices to maintain a unified global market outlook and understand its implications on NG markets and pricing.
  • Establish and expand a network of external market contacts to enrich market insights.


Experience/skills required:

  • A degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
  • Proficient in applying statistical methods and modeling techniques within a commercial context, utilizing them to recognize trends, patterns, and probabilities, as well as constructing models to drive insights and decision-making.
  • Capable of translating intricate analysis into a coherent data narrative, offering perspectives on market dynamics and price movements.
  • Exceptionally skilled in Excel/Power Query and proficient in visualization tools.
  • Proficiency in coding languages like Python and SQL is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in analysing commodity or freight market fundamentals, as well as a technical and commercial understanding of refining and refinery processes is beneficial.
