General Summary

Performs quality auditing functions and oversees containment activities or suspect parts that are produced at a die cast machine and or M and A/finished goods areas. Coordinates and conducts dimensional inspections on production parts using coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) as well as conducting Cleanliness testing and Gauge preventative maintenance and troubleshooting duties. Encompasses Spartan’s Core Operating Values in daily activities which contributes to the attainment of operational and quality metrics/goals and strong team member relations.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Audits and inspects Spartan manufactured parts and Supplied Components to identify specific defects
  • According to internal and external Visual Criteria
  • According to internal and external dimensional Criteria (with gauges and other equipment)
  • Audits and inspects all established quality processes, procedures and standards and customer requirements.
  • Enforces and emphasizes to Operations staff on the proper way to inspect for specific defects and on proper Containment and Sort techniques. Gives feedback to Leadership and corrects any improper techniques.
  • Handles changing daily priorities and works required overtime as needed (with or without advance notice).
  • Ensures all First Piece and Containment activities are performed accurately and according to defined procedures and work instructions to ensure Spartan maintains its quality reputation and to minimize financial losses.
  • Performs Lab CMM measurement duties for Production parts as required per Control Plans on die castings, machined and assembled parts.
  • Reads Lab Measurement reports for each check and communicates results to appropriate personnel and check sheets as defined.
  • Works with Quality Engineer, Lab Technician and CMM Programmers as necessary to contribute to the needs of the company via Capability Studies, CMM Calibration, Metal Checks, X-Ray, GR&R, etc.
  • Tests, Masters, and Trouble shoots all dimensional measuring and tests equipment that is associated with product quality for conformance to established standards. Works with other departments (Quality Engineering, Support, CMM Programmer, Calibration Technician) to ensure parts are verified in a timely manner.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities as requested by Quality Engineer or Quality Leader.
  • Participates in Quality Management System (QMS) activities, including,
  • Enforcing, training and testing specific QMS processes and procedures for the Plant Staff.
  • Maintaining an understanding of the IATF 16949 standard and Customer specific requirements to QMS.
  • Performing internal auditing and supporting continuous improvement activities.
  • Attends and successfully completes required in-house training, which includes completing various stages of training and skill development to ensure current knowledge of customer and job requirements. Utilizes this training to train others.
  • Attends and successfully completes required External Quality training as needed, which includes IATF, ISO and other QMS skills. Utilizes this training to train others.
  • Contributes to and supports the existence of a positive work environment through personal involvement by communicating, interacting and behaving in a manner that promotes productive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, customers, vendors and others with whom such relationships are important to the success of company operations.
  • Performs other duties and participates in special projects, as assigned.


Job Qualifications

Required: High School/GED and 2+ years related experience (Spartan or other manufacturing experience)

Preferred: Experience auditing parts to ensure QMS standards and customer requirements are met. Experience running CMM and other types of gauges.
